Those who are overwhelmed by desire are like Brahmins and others who hold false doctrines. They appear in the form of renunciates, though they are not, and generate evil views, even slandering the true Dharma. Those people also regard as incorrect the precepts, discipline, conduct, and the fruit of liberation taught by the Tathagata, as well as the teaching to abandon unexamined doctrines. They also regard as incorrect the profound words spoken with intention, and instead, they expound their own fabricated sutras and vinayas, saying, "The Tathagata has allowed us to eat meat." They write it down and argue with each other, saying that this is what the Buddha said, and each proclaims himself to be a son of the renunciate Shakya. Son of good family, at that time, other renunciates also hoard large quantities of grain and handle fish meat. They carry containers of butter, precious umbrellas, and leather shoes, and relying on kings, ministers, and householders, they study physiognomy, astrology, divination, and medicine. They enjoy male servants, female servants, gold, silver, masaragandha, silk, glass, pearls, coral, amber, glass cloth, and necklaces, as well as various kinds of fruits. Furthermore, they engage in wrestling, painting, and ornamentation, work as teachers of writing, plow fields, harvest crops, practice cursing, recite mantras and mix medicines, sing and dance, play music, make offerings with incense and flowers, and learn and make various crafts such as turmeric and orpiment. If any bhikshu abandons those unwholesome things, it should be known that that person is my true attendant. Then, Kashyapa again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how should bhikshus, bhikshunis, upasakas, and upasikas who live dependent on patrons, eat when they are given food mixed with meat during alms-gathering? How should they discern it? The Blessed One said to Kashyapa: Separate the meat and the food, wash it with water, and then eat it. If the alms bowl
