There is the perfectly complete Buddha named Cloud Sound Lamp, and the Thus-Gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the perfectly complete Buddha Cloud Sound King. Monks, in the northeast direction there is the Thus-Gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the perfectly complete Buddha, named the one who completely subdues all the fears, defeats, and shames of all the worlds. Monks, the Thus-Gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the perfectly complete Buddha Shakyamuni, I am the sixteenth, in this world system of the center, I have manifestly awakened to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Monks, whichever sentient beings who have become monks, having heard the Dharma from me, even each Bodhisattva in the teachings of that Blessed One, I have individually placed hundreds of thousands of millions of sentient beings, as many as the sands of the Ganges, in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Monks, they are still abiding in the ground of the Hearers, causing them to mature in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and the order of manifestly awakening to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment is like that. Why is that? Monks, it is because it is difficult to have faith in the wisdom of the Thus-Gone One. Monks, when I became a Bodhisattva, in the teachings of that Blessed One, countless, immeasurable, uncountable, hundreds of thousands of millions of sentient beings, as many as the sands of the Ganges, those sentient beings who are all the sentient beings who should hear the Dharma of the All-Knowing Wisdom, who are those sentient beings? Monks, those are you, who became sentient beings at that time, at that moment. Monks, after my passing into Nirvana, in the future, those Hearers who will appear, even if they hear the conduct of the Bodhisattvas, they will not know that we are Bodhisattvas, and they will all think that they have completely passed into Nirvana, and they will completely enter into Nirvana. Monks, however, in other world systems, I exist with other different names, and there they will seek the wisdom of the Thus-Gone One and be born. There, too, there is only the complete Nirvana of the Thus-Gone Ones.

Eh! Apart from this, there are no other two kinds of Nirvana. Such words will be heard. Monks, the explicit teaching of the Dharma should be understood as the skillful means of the Tathagatas. Monks, when the Tathagata sees the time when he himself will enter complete Nirvana, and the Sangha is completely pure, with faith as its core, able to realize the Dharma of emptiness, able to understand the realization of the Dharma of emptiness, possessing meditation, possessing great meditation, then, monks, the Tathagata, knowing that the time has come, gathers all the Bodhisattvas and all the Shravakas, and then truly proclaims this meaning. Monks, if there are no two vehicles or complete Nirvana in the world, what need is there to mention three? Monks, this is the skillful means of the Tathagatas, knowing that sentient beings have long been fond of the unwholesome and the inferior, and are attached to desires, monks, the Tathagata then teaches the Nirvana of the Tathagata to them according to what they like. Monks, this is like a parable, for example, a group of people gathered in a five-hundred-yojana wilderness in order to go to the Jewel Island. Among these people, there is one who is intelligent and clearly indicates the path, broad-minded and proficient, who saves many people from that desolate wilderness. Then, most of the people felt tired and discouraged, and said in fear: 'Venerable one, guide, please know that we are tired and discouraged, and because of fear and dread, we cannot overcome that wilderness. This wilderness is very far away, so let's go back.' Monks, then, that guide, knowing by skillful means that those people wanted to go back, thought: 'If these poor people cannot reach that great Jewel Island, that would be bad.' So, out of compassion for them, he employed skillful means, and in the middle of the wilderness, when they had passed a hundred or two hundred yojanas, he manifested an illusory city, and then he said to those people: 'Do not be afraid! Do not go back, this

Here, rest well, do all that needs to be done. Here, attain the abode of Nirvana. After resting here, whoever wishes to go, may go to that great jewel island, thus they are advised. Monks, those people who came out of the forest monastery, thinking, "We have been liberated from the wilderness monastery, and here we have attained the abode of Nirvana," were amazed. Monks, those people thought that they had entered and passed through the city of illusion. They thought they had crossed over, they thought they had attained Nirvana, they thought they had attained Nirvana and become cool. Then, the guide, knowing that they had rested, made the city of illusion disappear. After making it disappear, the guide said to those people: "This great city was manifested by me for you to rest, and it is also very close to the great jewel island, you beings can go." Similarly, monks, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, is also the guide for you and all beings. Monks, then, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, saw that if they were to become weary of, cultivate, and abandon this great forest of afflictions, these beings, upon hearing only the wisdom of the Buddha, would be terrified and retreat, thinking that cultivating the wisdom of the Buddha has many afflictions, and would not enter. Therefore, the Tathagata, knowing that the thinking power of beings is weak, just as the guide manifested the city of illusion for those beings to rest, and after those beings rested, he advised them, saying, "This is the city of illusion." Similarly, monks, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, with great skillful means, for the sake of the beings to rest, in the middle, proclaimed and thoroughly taught the two grounds of Nirvana, namely, the ground of the Hearers and the ground of the Solitary Buddhas. Monks, at the time when those beings abide therein, monks,
