And, gathering the respective thoughts together and focusing the mind, it should be known that this is focusing on the object of the Dharma that has become a great mixture. The immeasurable teachings of the Dharma of the Thus-Gone Ones, and the words of the Dharma, and the immeasurable letters, and the wisdom that is superior to the superior, and the immeasurable eloquence, gathering them together and focusing the mind, it should be known that this is focusing on the object of the immeasurable mixed Dharma. World-Honored One, by what measure can a Bodhisattva obtain calm-abiding and insight that focuses on the mixed Dharma? Maitreya, it should be known that it is obtained through five causes. That is to say, when focusing the mind, destroying all the bases of evil destinies in an instant, and completely abandoning various kinds of actions, obtaining the joy of delight in the Dharma, and truly knowing that the Dharma appears immeasurable in the ten directions and the form is completely not lacking, and for those who possess the necessity of complete accomplishment and conform to the aspect of purity, the unseparated signs arise completely in them, and for the sake of obtaining the Dharmakaya, and for the sake of complete perfection and complete accomplishment, it is more superior than the previous cause, and more virtuous than the virtuous, truly and completely holding on. World-Honored One, where should the calm-abiding and insight that focuses on the mixed Dharma be realized, and where should it be obtained? The Buddha taught: Maitreya, realization is on the first ground, the Joyful Ground, and attainment is on the third ground, the Luminous Ground, it should be known. Maitreya, even so, the initial Bodhisattva should also follow it, and should not abandon focusing the mind. World-Honored One, how does calm-abiding and insight become a samadhi with investigation and analysis? How does it become without investigation and only analysis? How does it become without investigation and without analysis? Maitreya, how to hold and observe, and for the Dharma of analysis, after experiencing their signs as clear and coarse, whatever calm-abiding and insight of analysis, that is a samadhi with investigation and analysis. After experiencing their own signs as clear and coarse,

Although it is not observation, nevertheless, after experiencing the subtle observation of calm abiding and insight that appears after a rough thought, that is a samadhi that has no conceptualization but only observation. Regarding their characteristics, in all of everything, by way of spontaneous accomplishment, contemplating the experienced dharma, therefore, the calm abiding and insight of discrimination, that is a samadhi that has no conceptualization and no observation. Maitreya, similarly, the calm abiding and insight that arises from completely seeking, that is a samadhi that has conceptualization and observation. That which arises from individual discrimination, that is a samadhi that has no conceptualization but only observation. That which focuses on mixed dharmas, that is a samadhi that has no conceptualization and no observation. Blessed One, what is the cause of calm abiding? What is the cause of grasping? What is the cause of equanimity? Maitreya, when the mind is agitated or suspects agitation, contemplating all the dharmas that are in accordance with becoming completely disgusted, and the uninterrupted mind, that is called the cause of calm abiding. Maitreya, when the mind is sinking or suspects sinking, contemplating all the dharmas that are in accordance with becoming manifestly delighted, and the sign of the mind, that is called the cause of grasping. Maitreya, whether it is the single certainty of calm abiding, or the single certainty of insight, or even the path of union, when the mind naturally inclines to a state that is not defiled by the near afflictions of these two, contemplating spontaneous accomplishment, that is called the cause of equanimity. Blessed One, bodhisattvas cultivate calm abiding and insight, individually and truly knowing the dharma, and individually and truly knowing the meaning, how does one individually and truly know the dharma? How does one individually and truly know the meaning? Maitreya, one individually and truly knows in five ways, namely, name, sentence, letter, individual, and aggregate. What is name? For all defiled and purified dharmas, the established name of self and difference.
