If there is no place for giving, then one becomes a place for giving oneself. What are the four? Ananda, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is delighted to lead sentient beings to abide correctly in the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. He is delighted to attend to the Tathagata with reverence. He is delighted to seek the Dharma everywhere. He also attends to those who speak the Dharma with comfortable provisions, and upon seeing suffering sentient beings, he comforts them with fearlessness. Ananda, if a Bodhisattva who has correctly entered the Great Vehicle possesses these four qualities, he will not forget his past lives and will not be separated from the place of giving. If he cannot find a place for giving, then he himself becomes a place for giving. Then, the Blessed One spoke these verses: He attends to the perfect Buddha with reverence, He is also respectful towards the Dharma, He also attends to the Bhikshu who speaks the Dharma with reverence. Seeing sentient beings afflicted by fear, And the suffering ones without refuge, He gives them fearlessness, He protects those afflicted by fear. By the power of that virtuous root, One will attain the sight of the Buddha. You should generate diligence, Even the gods will encourage you. If one has not seen the Buddha, And has not seen the Shravaka, The place of giving in this world, And has not seen the Pratyekabuddha, After realizing it oneself, One should renounce and go forth, Relying on a peaceful monastery, One will quickly attain the five superknowledges. Having attained the five superknowledges, One will wander everywhere on this earth, Going to towns and villages, One will lead sentient beings to abide in the Dharma. Having heard the Dharma from that, Sentient beings will abandon evil deeds, Hereafter, they will not commit evil deeds, Sentient beings will become respectful. There, one will attain Nirvana, With the supreme Dharma, like that supreme one. Thinking, "I should protect this in that way," One should renounce in his presence. When one practices the Dharma oneself, Such qualities will arise for others and oneself. Who does not constantly practice the Dharma? Therefore, one should seek perfect enlightenment everywhere.

These dharmas should be universally practiced. The wisdom of the Buddha is inconceivable; it will not decline. I, too, have relied on these dharmas in the past, therefore I am the most supreme. If one diligently studies these dharmas, attaining the Bodhi of the Buddha is not difficult. I am the perfectly enlightened Buddha of the world, I am the unsurpassed one of the world, the teacher of the Dharma with unsurpassed wisdom, Alala. Ananda, therefore, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should abide in these dharmas, that is, one should understand that dharmas accomplish benefits in such a way. Ananda, in the past, countless eons ago, at that time, in this place pervaded by the sky, there appeared a king named 'King Who Proclaims in All Directions.' Ananda, the noble queen, the consort of King Who Proclaims in All Directions, gave birth to a son. Ananda, as soon as that youth was born, the gods proclaimed in harmonious voices: 'A being who practices Dharma has appeared in the world!' Ananda, then the king's youth, hearing that sound, thought, 'Is this Dharma, or is it not Dharma?' and became very frightened. Ananda, when the king's youth was about seven years old, he went to where King Who Proclaims in All Directions was, prostrated at the king's feet, and sat to one side. Sitting to one side, he said to King Who Proclaims in All Directions: 'Father, is this Dharma, or is it not Dharma?' Then the king spoke to the youth in verse: Having abandoned the sin of killing, Giving, taming, pure conduct, correctly holding, He who possesses those virtues of discipline, That Dharma is praised by the noble ones. Ananda, then the king's youth said to his father in verse: Father, the Dharma you spoke to me, Well shows the kingdom and the world, Can a householder practice this Dharma? I ask this, please give me a prophecy. If it can be practiced, please tell me, If I can practice it, please say so. Beings who speak the truth will not fall into hell, Nor will they always go to bad destinies. He who speaks untruth

Will go to evil destinies. Will go to Avīci and experience suffering. Therefore, please abandon all untruths, please speak to me truthful words and truth. Ānanda, thereafter, King Phok Rab Drok (ཕྱོགས་རབ་སྒྲོགས) spoke to the king's prince in verses: The kingdom of Jambudvipa, cannot fully rely on all the Dharma. If the land is governed with sticks and swords, young man, where will the Dharma arise? I will cause harm to sentient beings, I will not quickly execute my orders, that will be deprived of enjoyment and punished. Afterwards, they will also be imprisoned. In order to inspect good places, it appears, at that time the townspeople will be afraid. The king is coming, fear will arise, and they will scatter in all directions. Whenever I abide in the Dharma, if this god is a person who has committed a mistake, how does the god know, please punish him! They will offer it to me, and they will definitely offer it to me. I do not know what crime has occurred, I commit sins for the benefit of others. From now on, under my rule, those people who do not commit sins will be whipped, bound, and killed. If they are taught and others do the same, then my country will suffer. After punishing, punish him, so that the townspeople will be afraid. The king is cruel and the people are fierce, he will immediately make sentient beings afraid. When causing harm, he will generate compassion, he will show non-attachment to victory. At that time, after the young man heard these words, he spoke these verses to Phok Rab Drok (ཕྱོགས་རབ་སྒྲོགས): Feeling weary and suffering, Father, I want to rely on the Dharma. Father, I do not seek the kingdom here, I will commit sins for the benefit of others. After abandoning parents and the kingdom, Father, I want to completely seek the Dharma. Father, if you do not let me go, I myself will end my life, Father. I will drink poison, jump off a cliff from a mountain, I will also end my life with a sword, Father. The king was very unhappy after hearing those words, Son, listen to these words of mine, young man, you always want...
