Having dwelt therein, he gazed upon the assembly of all the endowed Bodhisattvas, and for those Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, he performed the sign of teaching the ultimate and perfect Dharma. At that time, the assembly of all the endowed Bodhisattvas thought to themselves: We have heard that Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta speaks to the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Samyaksaṃbuddha. How wonderful it would be if we could ask about that category of Dharma which is without birth and without cessation for a long time! Then, Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta, knowing the mind of the Bhagavan and also knowing with his mind the complete understanding of the minds of those Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, arose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, placed the kneecap of his right knee upon the heart of a lotus, and bowed with folded hands towards the Bhagavan, and said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, if we say unborn and unceasing, then, Bhagavan, what Dharma's terminology is it to say born and unceasing? At that time, he spoke these verses: Unborn, unceasing, please, O Guide, explain. What is its definition and characteristic, O great wise one? Unborn, unceasing, how should that be spoken? Please, O Great Sage, explain with examples and reasons. These many assembled Bodhisattvas are led by the guides of the world. Seeking wisdom and prostrating to you, please explain the vast and profound sacred Dharma. Having thus requested, the Bhagavan said to Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta: Mañjuśrī, well done! well done! Mañjuśrī, you have embarked for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, for compassion towards the world, for the sake of the benefit and happiness of the great multitude of beings of gods and humans, and for the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas to attain Buddhahood. Mañjuśrī, you think to ask the Tathāgata about such a profound meaning, Mañjuśrī, you

Excellent! Manjushri, when the Tathagata explains this meaning, you should not be afraid, terrified, or tremble in this state. Manjushri, you should also rely on wisdom. Manjushri, the so-called "unborn and unceasing" is the supreme speech of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One. Manjushri, for example, this great earth is entirely in the nature of Vaidurya jewel. Just as with the nature of great Vaidurya, the realm of the Thirty-three, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, and the image of the Victory Banner Palace all appear on this great earth and completely abide there. There, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, plays, rejoices, and delights with the five desirable qualities of the gods, and it is also completely visible. Then, the gods say to all the men, women, boys, and girls of Jambudvipa: "Hey, men and women, come here! Look, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, is playing, rejoicing, and delighting in this Victory Banner Palace with the five desirable qualities of the gods. Hey, men and women, come here! Give alms, accumulate merit, keep pure precepts, and stay here, and you will be able to play, rejoice, and delight in this Victory Banner Palace, and even attain the position of Indra, and be as rich and complete with the enjoyments of the gods as the Lord of the Gods, Indra." They also encourage in this way. Manjushri, after that, those men, women, boys, and girls see the realm of the Thirty-three, the Victory Banner Palace, and the image of the Lord of the Gods, Indra, appearing on the great earth of Vaidurya jewel nature, and they join their palms and scatter flowers, and also scatter incense, and say, "We also wish to obtain a body like that of the Lord of the Gods, Indra."

May it be so. How we, like the lord of the gods, Indra, in this building called 'Victorious Palace,' play, rejoice, and enjoy happiness with the five desirable qualities of the gods, may we also be like that. However, these beings do not understand that this vast foundation formed by the nature of the great Vaiḍūrya jewel, as well as the abode of the Thirty-three (Trāyastriṃśa), the Victorious Palace, and the appearance of the lord of the gods, Indra, are because the nature of the Vaiḍūrya jewel is completely pure, that is why all images appear. They do not fully understand this. Because they desire Indra himself, they also give alms, perform virtuous deeds, properly uphold the precepts, abide, and completely strive to accumulate roots of virtue in order to be born in the place where the abode of the Thirty-three appears. Mañjuśrī, just as on the vast foundation formed by the nature of the great Vaiḍūrya jewel, there is neither the abode of the Thirty-three, nor the Victorious Palace, nor the lord of the gods, Indra. However, because the great Vaiḍūrya jewel is completely pure, the images of the abode of the Thirty-three, the Victorious Palace, and the lord of the gods, Indra, appear there. Those images are neither existent, nor unborn, nor undestroyed, but because the great Vaiḍūrya jewel is completely pure, the images also appear universally. Similarly, Mañjuśrī, for beings whose minds are completely pure and extremely accustomed to meditation, the body of the Tathāgata will appear. Mañjuśrī, the body of the Tathāgata seen by beings through the power of the Tathāgata is neither born, nor unborn, nor destroyed, nor is it a thing, nor is it not a thing, nor is it visible, nor is it invisible, nor is it the world, nor is it not the world, nor is it with mind, nor is it without mind, nor is it conceivable, nor is it inconceivable, nor is it existent, nor is it nonexistent. Mañjuśrī, however, beings, focusing on the image of the Tathāgata, scatter flowers, offer incense, the sky, and jewels, and say these words: May we also be like that.
