The Victorious One, having subdued afflictions, has a pure mind, possesses unobstructed knowledge, and has all-seeing eyes. With unobstructed knowledge, contemplating that, the mind comprehends, the immaculate eye of the guide prophesies. With eyes of loving-kindness, he gazes upon these beings, generating compassion for those in the continuum of suffering. In this loving-kindness, beings are skillfully established, and towards the realm of afflictions, there is equanimity. Because he has done this virtuous deed, he knows all causes and knowledge arises. Having heard this well-spoken manner, immeasurable desire arises for enlightenment. Whoever liberates beings and gods, obtains the arising of present knowledge. Possessing knowledge without attachment and self, he liberates sentient beings from the Dharma of suffering and harm. Because he has done this virtuous deed, he thoroughly understands the manner of present knowledge. Whoever knows well the thoughts of beings, thus the Victorious One also knows the means of taming. What do you think, son of Maudgalyayana? If you think that the one who was called 'the king who inflicts punishment' at that time was someone else, you should not view it that way. At that time, I was the king who inflicted punishment. By that root of virtue, I have attained the knowledge of the arising of the present, and the knowledge of all arising. Like the knowledge of the arising of the present of the son of Maudgalyayana, his knowledge of the arising of the present, and the knowledge of all arising, has utterly and completely inclined towards the nature of cessation and the nature of change. He has utterly and completely known it, and has utterly and completely made it manifest. Son of Maudgalyayana, in the past, in the immeasurable and countless aeons beyond countless aeons, there was a Tathagata who did not make vows, and broadly speaking, even until the Buddha Bhagavan appeared in the world. At that time, there was a Brahmin named 'Extremely Diligent Practitioner,' like a great Sala tree. Whatever he did, he did with extreme care, possessing the intention to benefit sentient beings and the mind to benefit sentient beings. As soon as he awoke from his sleep in the early morning, he heard a voice from the sky saying, 'All arising phenomena are cessation.' After that night, he woke up and got up, not liking the household, nor bathing, nor anointing his body, food
