That will be your long-term benefit, well-being, and happiness." To that, there is this saying: The hosts of gods dwell in the sky, proclaiming the name of the Buddha. The black ascetic of the gods, dwelling in the mountain crevices, saw this and attained supreme joy. What is this word 'Buddha,' which brings joy to all beings here? My body is completely soothed, and my mind is supremely pacified in bliss. Is it a god, or a non-god, or a garuda, or a human or non-human? This word 'Buddha,' a word of joy and adoration, I have never heard before. The eye of the god looked in the ten directions, at the mountains, earth, and oceans. Later, he saw wondrous and various forms in the earth, mountains, and oceans. This bright and beautiful light that soothes the body is an excellent sign. It is as if coral sprouts have sprung forth on the peaks of the mountains. The trees and forests are adorned with beautiful flowers and various fruits. It is very clear that the precious and sacred object will soon appear in the three realms. This entire earth is flat and without impurity, appearing like the palm of a hand. The gods rejoice and wave cloths in the center of the sky. The dragon kings float miraculously precious jewels above their ocean abodes. Surely, the precious object of the Victorious One, the source of Dharma, will appear in Jambudvipa. The lower realms are pacified, free from suffering, and sentient beings are happy. The hosts of gods wander joyfully in the center of the sky. It is as if the songs of the gods, sweet and pleasing music, resound. There is no doubt that the precious object will appear in these three realms; it is a sign of that. The black ascetic, with his divine eye, looked upon Jambudvipa. In the city of Kapilavastu, in the sacred city of King Suddhodana, He saw the birth of one with great power, great strength, name, merit, and increasing glory. His disciples went quickly together and sat down at the gate of the great royal city called Serkya (Kapilavastu). That hermit saw many attendants and billions of living beings and said to the gatekeeper, "Quickly inform the king that a hermit has come to the gate." Hearing that, the gatekeeper quickly went into the palace and told the king, "A certain old hermit with great asceticism is at the gate." "The noble hermit wishes to come into the king's palace." "Great king, shall I let him in or not? Please give me your command." Then a seat was laid out for him, and the king commanded, "Go and call him in." Hearing the king's command, the black hermit became joyful, happy, and content, like a thirsty man desiring cool water, or a hungry man desiring food. That holy hermit was also very happy to see that supreme being. He said joyfully, "Long live the king, may you live long!" Having spoken sweetly, with a tamed mind and pacified senses, he sat down on the seat. The king spoke respectfully and said these words to that capable hermit, "What is the reason for your coming to this palace of the king? Please tell me quickly." "Your son who was born has an excellent form, is transcendent, and possesses great splendor. He has great power and is adorned with the thirty-two excellent marks. King, I am happy to see that meaningful one among all your sons. Therefore I have come here, King, I have no other request." "Very good, you have come well, are you tired or not? I am happy to see you. But that noble youth is sleeping, now is not the time to see him. Please wait a moment, and you will see the stainless prince, like a spotless full moon adorned with a host of stars. When the supreme tamer, who possesses the light of the full moon, awakens, then the king will take into his lap that radiant one, who surpasses the light of the sun. In this way, hermit, now look at this golden and precious one, who is worshiped by gods and men." The black hermit saw his beautiful feet with the marks of a wheel. Then he stood up, folded his palms, and prostrated to his two feet. The great self was taken into the lap by the learned teacher, and he contemplated and gazed. He has great power, possesses power, and has excellent marks.
