If you doubt or hesitate, thinking that the one called Flower was someone else, do not look at it that way. Why is that? Because I myself was the young prince called Flower at that time. Kungawo, the mass of water in the four great oceans can be measured, but in seeking the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, the feet I gave to sentient beings in the past are immeasurable. Kungawo, the mass of water in the four great oceans, there was someone called Moonlight, who was of good form, beautiful, pleasing to the eye, of good color, prosperous, endowed with excellence, and possessed great royal wealth. He went to the pleasure garden. When he went to the middle of the village, he saw a blind man without eyes, poor, hungry, begging. Having seen him, he felt compassion for him. Then, that man went to where King Moonlight was, and having gone, he said this: God, you are happy! God, you are pleased! I am suffering, I am blind! I have no eyes! I am poor, I am hungry! I am a beggar! I have no protector! Kungawo, then King Moonlight also saw that man, and having heard his words, like tears falling, he said to him: Hey, man, what do you need? Shall I give you food, drink, a mount, ornaments, gold, jewels, pearls, and various precious things? Tell me what you want. That man said: If you can give me eyes, please grant me eyes. Kungawo, then King Moonlight plucked out his own eyes and gave them to that man. Kungawo, then King Moonlight plucked out his own eyes and gave them to that man, but there was no regret in his heart. Kungawo, if you doubt or hesitate, thinking that the one called King Moonlight at that time was someone else, do not look at it that way. Why is that? Because I myself was the one called King Moonlight at that time. Kungawo, the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, can be measured, but in seeking the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, the … I gave to sentient beings.

They are extremely numerous, immeasurable. Venerable Ananda, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, truly attained the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment through the easy vehicle, the easy entrance, and the easy path. Venerable Ananda, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, did not abandon his hands, did not abandon his feet, did not abandon his legs, did not abandon his beloved wife, did not abandon his beloved son, did not abandon villages, towns, cities, regions, countries, and the royal palace retinue. Venerable Ananda, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, truly attained the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment through skillful means, the easy vehicle, the easy entrance, and the easy path. Then, the Venerable Ananda said to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, with what skillful means did the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya abide, and truly attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? What is that skillful means?" Having heard this, the Bhagavan said to the Venerable Ananda: "Ananda, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, three times during the day and three times during the night, bared one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms, visualized all the Buddhas before him, and spoke these words: "I prostrate to all the Buddhas! They are the seers with divine eyes. I also prostrate to the Bodhisattvas, I prostrate to the Shravakas! They avert all the bad destinies, They excellently show the path to higher realms, They lead to the place without old age and death, I prostrate to the Bodhicitta! Because I am controlled by the mind, Whatever sins I have committed, In the presence of the Buddhas, I will confess those sins. Whatever accumulation of merit I have gathered, Through any of the three ways, That is the seed of my omniscience, That is my Bodhi."
