Thus he spoke to Sa Sangkyong (a place name). Sa Sangkyong, good, good! It is just so, as you have urged me. Sa Sangkyong, therefore, listen to the coming, going, transferring, and cessation of consciousness. Sa Sangkyong, for example, the wind element, although it is not a material thing, can be indicated and grasped, and from those things that can be indicated and grasped, it appears as a material thing. Among them, what can be indicated is the moving and shaking of trees, the production of loud noises, and the creation of the feeling of cold and warmth, but it does not have limbs and eyes, and its shape cannot be clearly pointed out, nor can its color be specifically identified as blue or white. Sa Sangkyong, similarly, this realm of consciousness cannot be regarded as having form, nor can it appear as having form. You should understand the realm of consciousness through various different causes. So, what are the causes? They are mind, feeling, and the realm of phenomena. So, how does this realm of consciousness completely abandon the body and take up feeling and mind? For example, the wind element collects the fragrance of flowers and transfers it away, from which it is known that the fragrance of heavenly flowers arises, but the wind element does not hold the fragrance of flowers, and without the wind element, the fragrance of various flowers cannot be distinguished. The fragrance is not a material thing, nor is the wind element a material thing, nor is the nose faculty a material thing. Sa Sangkyong, similarly, the undying consciousness completely takes up feeling, completely takes up mind, and correctly takes up the realm of phenomena, and then goes to another world, and from the meeting of parents, consciousness will arise. When consciousness arises, various feelings and mind will gather. For example, through flowers, the nose can feel, and through the nose, fragrance can be distinguished. Furthermore, through the body, the touch of the nature of wind can be distinguished, and through the wind, the fragrance of flowers can arise. Similarly, through consciousness, feeling can arise, and through feeling, mind can arise. Through mind, the realm of phenomena that knows what is virtuous or non-virtuous can arise. For example, a painter...

And After thoroughly cleaning the wooden board, one works as desired. For those who are diligent in their work, although various forms can be manifested as desired, their consciousness is not form. Consciousness is not form, yet it can manifest various forms. Similarly, this non-form realm of consciousness can manifest the six bodies of form. For example, the eye faculty sees forms, and the consciousness that relies on the eye is also not form. The ear faculty hears sounds, and that is also not form. The nose faculty smells scents, and that is also not form. The tongue faculty tastes flavors, and that is also not form. The body faculty touches the tangible, and that is also not form. The dharma realm is also not form. The one who fully understands is also not form. Therefore, one should view the objects of experience as non-form. Similarly, one should also view this realm of consciousness as non-form. How then does this realm of consciousness abandon the body and go to another world? Well-protected one, here, at the time of death, when life ceases due to the exhaustion of karma, this realm of consciousness, bound by karmic obscurations, will be transferred. For example, the realm of consciousness of an Arhat who enters into cessation, ceases within his body and is fully known. Similarly, this realm of consciousness will also abandon the body after the death of beings, abandon the aggregates, and become endowed with the power of memory. Thus, I am the one who has been given by offerings, thus knowing, bound by both the feeling of the body and the feeling of the mind. Therefore, at the time of death, one will be associated with the feeling of the body. After death, one will be associated with the feeling of the mind. Furthermore, what is the meaning of consciousness? The seed enables the sprout of the body to manifest, and the mind enables one to obtain knowledge and memory. Therefore, the seed and knowledge are called consciousness. Furthermore, because one can comprehend the feeling of pleasure and pain and knowledge, it is called consciousness.
