Now, one should also observe those who are not close. Good Guardian, therefore, you should regard any demonic influence, because it is formless, as the realm of consciousness. The enjoyment of demons, whether good or bad, should be regarded as virtue and non-virtue. Anyone should be regarded as the body. Then, the Great Physician addressed the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, how should the cause of the arising of this body be viewed? The Blessed One replied: This arises from the mutual dependence of causes and conditions, which gives rise to desire. For example, it also depends on the base for drilling wood to make fire, it also depends on the drilling wood, and it also depends on the effort of the person who makes the fire, so that fire can be produced. Similarly, the cause of the arising of this body is the condition of male and female, so that desires such as sound, touch, taste, and form can be produced. For example, fruit is produced from a flower, but the fruit is not visible in the flower, and the flower is not visible in the production of the fruit. Similarly, consciousness arises from this body, but consciousness is not visible in the body, and the cessation of consciousness also causes the bones, legs, soft parts, and impure things of the body to be completely destroyed. For example, the seed plants the color, smell, and taste of the flower, similarly, this realm of consciousness also completely abandons the body, planting virtue and non-virtue, and also planting feelings, perceptions, and mental formations, and then goes to another world. For example, when the roots of a man and a woman meet, joy is moistened, and they embrace the woman very tightly, producing afflictions. If the afflictions of these two disappear, they will also separate. These two will experience pleasure connected with desire, where afflictions are removed and they become without desire, and they will separate from each other again, no longer having desire. Similarly, this realm of consciousness encounters the body, produces joy, and then causes attachment to increase. For example, because of the body, when the form of a woman is seen, the desire of a man arises, and when separated from contact, it will return. The same is true,

This consciousness aggregate completely takes the body, then abandons it, and does not transform into anything else. Here, when father and mother unite, and a gandharva is near, the body is accomplished by consciousness from the object of focus of karma. These karmas are not form, and the nature of the cause of male and female is also not form. Desire arises from the cause of grasping, therefore it is called desire-grasping. Because form grasps desire, therefore it is also called desire-grasping. Manjushri, furthermore, what is the supreme grasping of upholding morality and asceticism? Here, morality is abandoning killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, grain alcohol and mixed alcohol, which are intoxicating places of carelessness. Upholding it as supreme is the fruit of abiding and the fruit of once-returning. Its grasping is existence, being born in gods and humans, completely holding onto production, which is the complete maturation of both defiled and undefiled virtue. It also moistens the seeds of the aggregates. It also accumulates virtuous and non-virtuous actions. It also tames consciousness. It also burns the grasped afflictions, therefore this is called the supreme grasping of upholding morality and asceticism. After speaking thus, Manjushri said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how does this consciousness completely take a body in the realm of the gods? And how does it take a body in the hell realms of sentient beings? The Blessed One said: Manjushri, therefore listen. Here, this consciousness aggregate completely takes the realm of phenomena, giving rise to the view of the gods. That view does not rely on the eye of flesh. Whatever is seen by that view is called grasping, therefore it is called view-grasping. That view of the gods, being similar to focusing on merit, sees the abode of the gods among the gods in the desire realm. There, the gods see play with the play of the gods, and attachment arises there. They also think: I

Thinking that it would go there. Therefore, he fully understood the beings who could develop attachment and have memory there. He also saw the corpse sitting in the charnel ground and thought: This is my virtuous friend, he has accumulated the roots of virtue for me, which will allow me to be reborn among the gods. After saying this, the great physician said these words to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if consciousness is attached to that corpse, why does it not remain? Why does it not rely on that corpse? The Blessed One said: Great physician, for example, if someone cuts off their hair and beard, and seeing that hair and beard, thinks: This hair is fragrant and black, I should grow it back on my head. Great physician, what do you think? Will that hair grow back? He replied: Blessed One, no. The Blessed One said: Great physician, similarly, this realm of consciousness, after abandoning the corpse, returns to that same corpse, this is unreasonable. After saying this, the great physician again said these words to the Blessed One: This tiny and invisible realm of consciousness, how does it create the huge body of an elephant, and how does it penetrate the corpse that is as hard as a diamond? And how does it control a person with the strength of nine thousand elephants and the king of elephants? The Blessed One said: Great physician, for example, the realm of wind, which is formless and invisible, dwells on the mountainside, and coming from that mountainside, can topple and shake the summit of a mountain that is like Mount Sumeru. Great physician, what do you think? What is the nature of the realm of wind? And what is the nature of that mountain? The great physician replied: The realm of wind is soft and without a body, that is how I see it. The Blessed One said: Great physician, it is just so. Just as the realm of wind is soft and without a body, this consciousness is also weak and without a body, but it can produce both large and small bodies. Even the consciousness of a bee is like that.
