I do not perform any Dharma, because I do not destroy. I do not liberate any beings, nor do I bind them. What is the reason for this? Because there are no beings. Venerable Mahākāśyapa, if someone says, "That is how they practice austerities," then Venerable Mahākāśyapa, I am not practicing austerities, nor are the Tathāgatas, nor the Arhats, nor the Pratyekabuddhas. Venerable Mahākāśyapa, if someone correctly says, "It is those ordinary people who are practicing austerities," then those people are speaking correctly. What is the reason for this? Venerable Mahākāśyapa, like this, whatever all the Buddhas have not attained, do not attain, and will not attain, and whatever all the Śrāvakas and all the Pratyekabuddhas have not attained, do not attain, and will not attain, that is attained by ordinary people. Mahākāśyapa said: Mañjuśrī, what have all the Buddhas not attained? Mañjuśrī said: Venerable Mahākāśyapa, I have not attained. Beings have not attained. Life has not attained. Person has not attained. Permanence has not attained. Cessation has not attained. Skandhas have not attained. Dhātus have not attained. Āyatanas have not attained. Name has not attained. Form has not attained. Desire realm has not attained. Form realm has not attained. Formless realm has not attained. Discrimination, complete discrimination, various discriminations, cause and birth have not attained. Inversions have not attained. Desire, hatred, and ignorance have not attained. This world and the other world have not attained. Self-grasping and I-am-grasping have not attained. Venerable Mahākāśyapa, in short, all Dharmas have not attained, not destroyed, not liberated, not grasped, not abandoned, not joined, not separated. Venerable Mahākāśyapa, therefore, you should understand that whatever all the Buddhas have not attained is attained by those ordinary people who do not have learning, therefore those people are practicing austerities. Whatever the Buddhas have not done,

And, whatever is not done by the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, that is also done by the childish ordinary people. Mahakashyapa said: Manjushri said: Venerable Mahakashyapa does permanence. He does annihilation. He does complete union. He does manifest abiding. He does conceit. He does mind. He does birth. He does destruction. He does taking. He does abandoning. He does scattering. He does discrimination. He does attachment. He does anger. He does pride. He does taming. Venerable Mahakashyapa, whatever are the dharmas that the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have done, not done, and will not do, those are done by the childish ordinary people, therefore, those are difficult to do. Then, the Bhagavat Manjushri, become a youth, said this: Bhagavat, if we say "tolerance of non-arising dharmas, tolerance of non-arising dharmas," then Bhagavat, what is the "tolerance of non-arising dharmas" that a Bodhisattva speaks of? What does a Bodhisattva who has attained tolerance of non-arising dharmas attain? The Bhagavat said: Manjushri, because there is no attainment whatsoever, it is called attaining tolerance of non-arising dharmas. Why is that? Because tolerance is unattainable, because there is no attainment, therefore it is separated from tolerance, unattained, and not destroyed. Manjushri, what is called tolerance of non-arising dharmas is tolerance that all dharmas are without birth, tolerance that all dharmas are without coming, tolerance that all dharmas are without going, tolerance that all dharmas are without equality, tolerance that all dharmas are without a master, tolerance that all dharmas are without taking, tolerance that all dharmas are without abandoning, tolerance that all dharmas are without things, tolerance that all dharmas are without essence, tolerance that all dharmas are without similarity, tolerance that all dharmas are without dust and equal to the sky, tolerance that all dharmas are without separation and without obstruction, tolerance that all dharmas are without all defilements.

Patience, and patience called all dharmas without complete purification, and patience called all dharmas empty, without characteristics, and without aspirations, and patience called all dharmas free from desire, free from hatred, and free from ignorance, and patience called all dharmas abiding in suchness, the realm of dharma, and the ultimate reality, and patience called all dharmas unconsidered, considered, not conceited, without elaboration, unthought, unmade, powerless, weak, accumulating, nourishing, like illusion, like dream, like echo, like cataract, like mirage, like the pith of a plantain tree, like a water bubble, like foam, and those are not dharmas, nor are they non-dharmas, but only expressed by names, and those names are unwavering, and their nature is distinct, thus they are patient, believe, accept, subdue, know, not timid, not doubtful, not fearful, not alarmed, not becoming alarmed, having touched with the body, abide having accomplished, and not fixating on the body, and not fixating on abiding, Manjushri, this is because all characteristics do not arise, it is called the patience of the Bodhisattva's unborn dharma. Manjushri asked: Blessed One, what is called patience, patience, is that no dharma can harm any dharma, that is called patience. Then the son of the gods, Wisdom Increase, said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, what dharma harms what dharma? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, the eye is harmed by agreeable and disagreeable forms, the ear by sounds, the nose by smells, the tongue by tastes, the body by touches. Son of the gods, the mind is harmed by agreeable and disagreeable dharmas. Son of the gods, although the eye of the Bodhisattva sees forms, he does not grasp at characteristics, he does not grasp at appearances, he does not discriminate, he does not conceptualize, he does not follow after attachment.
