Furthermore, if a Bodhisattva possesses this third dharma, he will regress from unsurpassed Bodhi and turn to the vehicle of the Hearers. Moreover, if a Bodhisattva hears such a sutra but does not sincerely and accurately explain it to others, becomes discouraged, delights in being alone, is stingy with the Dharma, has no desire to teach others, and does not extensively gather others with the Dharma, then due to the causes and conditions of that root of virtue, his wisdom will greatly diminish. Because his wisdom has diminished, he will not read and manifest the sutra Dharma together with others, nor will he harmonize with others through the Dharma. Therefore, immediately after that person leaves his body, his Bodhicitta will become empty, and the Bodhisattva's thoughts will also be forgotten. If a Bodhisattva possesses these four dharmas, he will regress from the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi and turn to the vehicle of the Hearers. Then, at that time, the Bhagavan, in order to clearly reveal this meaning, spoke in verse: "One who relies on bad friends, and does not strive for Bodhi, the cause and condition for this, the unsurpassed Bodhicitta becomes empty." "Increasing sinful self-view, falling into extremes and wrong views, destroying the Dharma and increasing sin, one will be born in an unfavorable place." "Having been born in an unfavorable place, cutting off the Bodhicitta, the vows of the past become empty, therefore the Bodhicitta is also lost." "The Dharma that gives rise to his Bodhicitta, will not be heard, if his mind increases, then Bodhicitta will be accomplished. Even having heard the vast sacred Dharma, but out of stinginess is unwilling to tell others, the cause and condition for this, the path to Bodhi will regress." "A Bodhisattva seeking the Great Vehicle, should know this Dharma in this way, if these four dharmas are known, then Bodhicitta will arise." "Therefore, these four sinful dharmas, should be abandoned with diligence, if one meditates on the Dharma of emptiness, then one will rely on a virtuous friend. Such a sutra

O, if one hears (these), one will not generate miserliness, and one should diligently rely on others, from which bodhi will arise excellently. The Blessed One said: Gangpo, if a Bodhisattva possesses four qualities, he will not turn away from the mind of bodhi as he has vowed, and he will not completely degenerate the roots of virtue as he has vowed. What are the four? Bodhisattvas who keep pure morality completely, thereby fulfilling their aspirations; who possess mindfulness and whose wisdom abides correctly; who strive with a zealous mind and are without laziness; and who are richly learned and whose wisdom increases. Gangpo, if a Bodhisattva possesses these four qualities, he will not turn away from the mind of bodhi as he has vowed, and he will not completely degenerate the roots of virtue as he has vowed. Then, at that time, the Blessed One, in order to clearly show that meaning, again spoke in verses: The Bodhisattva possesses morality, mindfulness is deep and far-reaching, he strives with a zealous mind, and is richly learned and possesses a stream of wisdom. If a Bodhisattva always relies on these four qualities, all the things he thinks of in his mind will be completely accomplished. Therefore, one should always keep the precepts and diligently possess diligence. Do not cut off the stream of mindfulness, and always strive to be richly learned. By keeping the precepts, pure abodes will grow well; with mindfulness, wisdom will be practiced; with diligence, one will also study the Buddha's teachings; with rich learning, great wisdom will arise. Therefore, Bodhisattvas should train in such dharmas, and if they train well in such dharmas, they will turn the unsurpassed wheel. Furthermore, Gangpo, if a Bodhisattva possesses four qualities, he will benefit bodhi. What are the four? Keeping morality is a dharma that benefits bodhi, cultivating patience is a dharma that benefits bodhi, initiating diligence is a dharma that benefits bodhi, and being richly learned is

The Dharma that benefits enlightenment, Gangpo Che said that these four are beneficial to enlightenment. Then, at that time, the Blessed One, in order to clearly show that meaning, spoke in verse: The Bodhisattva's protection of precepts is beneficial to enlightenment, diligence and patience, and so is much learning. Whatever pure precepts are guarded, all wishes will be fulfilled. Because pure precepts are very helpful, it is not difficult to attain enlightenment. Bodhisattvas practice patience, and the marks of the body and wisdom are accomplished. Therefore, if you can cultivate patience well, you will have the treasures of the Buddha's marks and wisdom. Diligence is also the same, because it is very helpful to enlightenment. If you always work hard with diligence, it is not difficult to attain enlightenment. Much learning is also helpful, so after hearing, practice the Dharma well, and abandon impure Dharma, it is not difficult to attain enlightenment. Because the four Dharmas are seeds, enlightenment grows from them. Therefore, Bodhisattvas should practice the benefits of the Dharma. Furthermore, Gangpo, if Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas possess four Dharmas, they will obtain perfect body color, perfect enjoyment, and perfect retinue. They will also not always be born in sinful and unwholesome places of leisure, they will always meet with the Buddhas, and they will be praised by the Buddhas. What are the four? When a Bodhisattva cultivates loving-kindness, he has no anger towards all sentient beings and does not harm them. Gangpo, how is it that a Bodhisattva cultivates loving-kindness and has no anger towards all sentient beings and does not harm them? When a Bodhisattva cultivates loving-kindness, he thinks of sentient beings: I will protect them. Because he generates loving-kindness, he sees the suffering of sentient beings' bodies and minds, and thinks: I will diligently and vigorously liberate those sentient beings from the suffering of samsara, and I will give all those sentient beings happiness. I will guide them away from the suffering of samsara.
