Having no fear. Speaking unclearly. Liking foolishness. Liking darkness. Liking mud. Repeatedly cutting off young shoots. Constantly digging the ground with toes. Often having ants gathering at wounds. Often sowing seeds in the sky. Always sleeping curled up. Sleeping on the ground. Not being disgusted by impurity. Often getting lost in the sky. Often eating unripe things. Saying one thing and doing another, acting deceitfully. Acting rudely. Dreams of myself being covered in mud, dreams of myself entering the forest and eating grass. Dreams of venomous snakes coiling around me. Dreams of myself entering the mountains. Wanderers, these and so on, should be recognized as the various characteristics of a person who has died and transmigrated from the animal realm. Even if one were to speak for a kalpa or more than a kalpa, one could not exhaust them. Wanderers, the characteristics of a person who has died and transmigrated from the world of Yama are these.

Large eyes. Much white in the eyes. Teeth showing. Having power. Cunning. Fond of discord. Very arrogant in all matters. Teeth prominent. Holding a contemptuous attitude towards the entire world. Sharp weapons. Harsh speech. Boastful. Having the power of ignorance. Having the power of afflictions. Wanderers, know that these and so forth are the characteristics of a person who has died and transmigrated from the Asura realm. Wanderers, the characteristics of a person who has died and transmigrated from the human realm are as follows: Fond of marveling. Respecting the noble ones. Slandering those who are not noble. Doing good deeds. Desiring fame. Desiring reputation. Desiring a good name. Fond of crafts. Fond of knowledge. Few afflictions. Having shame and a sense of decency. Possessing noble qualities. Grateful. Kind to friends. Having complete trust. Upright in conduct. Able to distinguish between what has been done and what has not been done.

His mind is preceded by love, has a joyful demeanor, speaks softly, is skilled in joy, likes continuity, has a harmonious demeanor, has a walking demeanor, has a demeanor of physical strength, knows the characteristics of attachment and non-attachment, and is skilled in beneficial things. Therefore, in order to abandon the causes of the karma of hell beings, one should seek virtuous friends.
