Shariputra, furthermore, this Bodhisattva is skilled in cause and arising. What is the cause? What is the arising? What is called the cause is the discriminating thought of improper attention. From this, sentient beings abide in the four inversions. This is diligence in proper attention. What is proper attention? It is not remembering all dharmas. Arising is also that itself. Shariputra, furthermore, in this, the Bodhisattva also fully knows the nature of the Buddha, and also fully knows the nature of the Buddha-field. What is the nature of the Buddha? What is the nature of the Buddha-field? What is called the nature of the Buddha is merely a name. What is called the nature of the Buddha-field is also merely a name. Knowing that merely a name is peaceful, and knowing in such a way that no dharma is seen, thus he knows. Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva possesses these five dharmas, he will not waver from his aspiration, and he will fully hold and enjoy the qualities and arrangements of the Buddha-field as he desires. Shariputra, furthermore, if a Bodhisattva possesses six dharmas, he will quickly manifest the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, and hold the excellent Buddha-field that transcends all worlds. What are the six? Shariputra, in this, the Bodhisattva becomes a giver, a patron. He completely gives away any cherished, pleasing, and highly desired objects without hesitation, and generates joy, satisfaction, delight, and happiness, thinking: Because I aspire to the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, I should perfect the great giving, the great vehicle, and the great action. With a clinging mind, one cannot accomplish the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment. After contemplating in this way, he will completely give away all possessions. Even if he completely gives away his own body and life, he will not be unhappy, let alone other possessions, wife, sons, and daughters? Shariputra, in this, if

So, what is the teaching of the word 'knowing all things' like? Shariputra, whoever is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the practice of a Bodhisattva, and completely gives up all possessions, therefore, he attains Bodhi, so he is called 'knowing all things'. Shariputra, furthermore, here the Bodhisattva, whether a householder or a renunciate, is well established in truly upholding the vows of morality, and even for the sake of life, he does not transgress what he has learned. Whoever truly upholds the vows of morality also dedicates it together with all sentient beings to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, and generates joy and supreme joy, thinking, 'I am one who possesses morality', with great joy he practices pure conduct, and he practices pure conduct and happily spends the days and nights. He happily makes the Dharma manifest, and truly distinguishes and contemplates the meaning that corresponds to the Dharma, abiding in truly distinguishing and contemplating, he will generate patience towards the profound. Generating patience towards the profound, it will become upright views. If the view is upright, it will become truly diligent. Abiding in true diligence, one will not be delighted with the three realms. Because of not being delighted with the three realms, one will become afraid. Because of being afraid, the arising will be exhausted. Having seen the arising, he thinks like this: 'Just as I am suffering, so are all sentient beings, and apart from me taking on the burden of all these sentient beings and pacifying it, there is no other cause for these beings to obtain happiness.' He distinguishes and contemplates in this way, and he will obtain great compassion. Because he has great compassion, until he obtains omniscience, he will not abandon diligence like a fire burning on his head and clothes. Shariputra, furthermore, here the Bodhisattva, wears the armor of patience and possesses the power of patience, but does not possess the power of pride. Even if reviled, beaten, threatened, he practices patience, does not quarrel with the other, and does not think of harming the other. He generates the mind like this: If those sentient beings strike me with hammers as large as Mount Sumeru

Even if someone reviles me incessantly for countless eons, I will not generate a mind of malice, contempt, or hatred. Why is that? Because these beings are untamed, and I wish to learn from the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. The more beings revile, beat, and strike me, the more I will find great compassion, and I will protect these beings. I will don armor for the sake of these beings, and I will take hold of these beings, and I will completely liberate them from samsara. I will not generate a mind of malice, contempt, or hatred towards them. In this way, by donning the armor of patience, one obtains ten perfections. What are these ten? They are obtaining perfection of lineage, perfection of resources, perfection of form, perfection of retinue, perfection of generosity, perfection of virtuous friends, perfection of hearing the Dharma, perfection of diligently practicing the Dharma, perfection of seeing the Buddha even after death and transference, and perfection of gaining faith even after seeing the Buddha. Shariputra, a Bodhisattva who has donned the armor of patience obtains these ten perfections. Furthermore, Shariputra, for the sake of completely accomplishing the virtuous Dharma of a Bodhisattva, he exerts diligence and remains steadfast in mindfulness. He exerts diligence in this way: Even if I must wander in samsara for countless eons for the sake of each and every being, with this method, with this diligence, with this conduct, with this peaceful mind, with this mindfulness, with this virtuous thought, and with this compassionate mind, I will wander in samsara for that many eons for the sake of all beings, so that I will not abandon these beings. Thinking in this way, he exerts diligence. Again, Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva fills all the Buddha-fields in the ten directions, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, with the seven precious jewels, merely generating the mind of enlightenment, merely generating the mind of enlightenment, the Tathagata...
