When thus spoken, how many are the branches of speech? They are explained by the names of Dharma, and the teaching of Dharma is also the same. How many are the forms of all sentient beings, as well as their names and minds? From a single pore of a sentient being's heart, that many rays of light arise. How many rays of light arise from all the pores of the solitary places of the world? When the king of men teaches the Dharma, the branches of speech are even more numerous than that. For example, although the Buddha diligently teaches for eons, the end of the Buddha's voice can never be found. Afflictions are not those with form, they are spoken of with words that are without form. With words that are without form, afflictions without form are pacified. Just as words are without form, and are not perceived in all places, so too, afflictions without form are not very apparent. Just as words do not come from anywhere, and do not abide within or without, so too, afflictions do not exist, and do not abide within or without. Just as the Buddhas' speech in the ten directions cannot be found anywhere, so too, although afflictions are imperceptible, they are spoken of with words. The words of all sentient beings, whether they are superior, middling, or inferior, do not abide in the body or mind, nor are they without a place to abide. Just as a musical instrument is made to spin, and sound arises from being moved by the wind, there is no one who makes the sound, yet those sounds arise. Thus, in order to purify all past defilements, moved by the thoughts of all sentient beings, although the Buddha's speech arises, there is no conceptualization of this or that. Just as the sound of rocks does not abide within or without, so too, the speech of the king of men does not abide within or without. Just as a jewel does not conceptualize, yet satisfies sentient beings with its light, so too, the Victorious One's speech does not conceptualize, and perfects all sounds. Peaceful Intelligence, furthermore, the secret of the Tathagata's speech is that one should truly understand how the Tathagata teaches the Dharma in accordance with the language of all sentient beings. Peaceful Intelligence, in this great trichiliocosm, in all the various places where sentient beings are born, the Tathagata teaches the Dharma in accordance with the language of sentient beings, and with various different names of truth.
