Approximately one hundred were like this: the virtuous women Great Light, Light Virtue, Body Virtue, Manifest Joy Body, Virtuous Woman and Generosity, Moon Light, Crown Light, Auspicious Light, Eye Virtue, and so on, five hundred virtuous women gathered in the same way. Similarly, gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, great belly-crawlers, and others surrounded and gazed upon the Blessed One as he taught the Dharma, namely: he perfectly revealed the chapter of the Dharma gate called "Teaching the Three Vows." Showing the realm of all Tathagatas, proclaiming the conduct of Bodhisattvas, manifesting the mandala of all Dharmadhatu, manifesting the mandala of all Dharmas that gather perfectly, the mandala of all pure lands as various ornaments, obtaining all refutations of others, destroying the armies on the other side of the arguments of Mara, satisfying all realms of sentient beings, manifesting the density of the minds of all sentient beings, truly understanding the thoughts of all sentient beings, showing the turning of the wheel of Dharma according to the faculties of all sentient beings. Then, the venerable Mahakashyapa rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and bowed with his palms joined towards the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what Dharma should those sentient beings who seek the Buddha's Dharma, who seek the Buddha's power and fearlessness, take up and abide in? What kind of Dharmas will cause them to fully mature? What kind of Dharmas will cause them to not regress from and attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Having thus spoken, the Blessed One said to the venerable Mahakashyapa: Kashyapa, you have entered for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, for compassion for the world, for the sake of gods and humans, for benefit and happiness, and therefore you ask about such matters.

Māpā said to Holder of Light: "You are good! Good! Holder of Light, therefore listen well and keep it in mind!" The venerable Holder of Light the Great, and the retinue complete in every way, listened as the Blessed One would, and the Blessed One spoke thus to them: "Holder of Light, those sentient beings who seek the wisdom of the Buddha, the power of the Buddha, and fearlessness, such beings, what do they rely on to generate roots of virtue? No dharma can be pointed out. Holder of Light, as many Bodhisattvas as there are who seek unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and who think of the unconditioned as other than the Buddha's dharmas, or who think of the Buddha's dharmas as other than the unconditioned, who think of the Buddha's dharmas and engage in ideation, or who think, 'This is the Buddha's dharma,' such a one has turned away from the Buddha's dharmas. Such a one cannot be said to have truly entered unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Why is that? Because if one thinks of the Buddha's dharma, that is precisely grasping at self. If one strives in practice as if it were a single day, that is grasping at self, and there is no separation. That which is inseparable is thinking. The thinker, the instrument of thinking, and the object of thinking, these are all decaying. The decaying one scatters in various directions. The one who scatters in various directions wanders everywhere. The one who wanders everywhere follows. The one who follows discriminates. The one who discriminates discriminates in various ways. The one who discriminates in various ways discriminates extremely. The one who discriminates extremely discriminates completely. The one who discriminates completely is not pacified. The one who is not pacified is biased. The one who is biased wanders. The one who wanders is impoverished. Impoverished by what? Impoverished by bliss. What is bliss? It is the absence of all discrimination; that is bliss. The impoverished one is faulty. The one who is faulty approaches. The one who approaches lies dormant. The one who lies dormant connects. The one who connects connects in various ways. The one who connects in various ways completely...
