So, what are the practices that should be thoroughly cultivated and that are beneficial for Bodhi? Manjushri, there are three practices that a Bodhisattva householder should thoroughly cultivate and that are beneficial for Bodhi. What are the three? One should be extremely desirous of all-knowing wisdom, one should not fall into past actions, and one should possess the five bases of training derived from this. If one possesses these three branches, one will accomplish six dharmas. What are the six? Attaining the noble state, not being foolish and not being dull like a sheep, not being deaf and not being virtuous, his body will manifestly accomplish clarity, quickly attaining faith and not being frightened by profound dharmas, becoming superior through hearing without effort, and being able to quickly attain non-retrogression. There are five dharmas that will obstruct these six dharmas, and one should be skilled in them. What are the five? Vowing not to slander and not abiding, not deceiving in any way, the Bodhisattva should make his intention complete, stinginess will obstruct it, and attachment to desire will obstruct it. These five dharmas will obstruct it. There are also three dharmas to be practiced. What are the three? Continuously generating the mind of renunciation, being respectful and compliant towards monks and Brahmins who uphold morality, and completely abandoning those who fabricate and teach the Dharma. Why? Because Bodhisattvas should not learn from them. Bodhisattvas should not take on the burden of the root. Why? Because what is accumulated is not the path to Bodhi. Therefore, having abandoned it out of ignorance, one should correctly accept those dharmas and not learn. Manjushri, furthermore, Bodhisattvas should also correctly accept and practice three dharmas. What are the three? He should continuously focus on the Buddha, strive to memorize and recite the scriptures, and he should generate and cultivate a mind of loving-kindness towards all beings. One should correctly accept and practice these three dharmas.

It should be declared. Furthermore, one should universally rely on three dharmas. What are the three? Namely, one should abandon striking with fists and palms, one should not speak disparagingly of others, and one should bestow fearlessness upon fearful beings. These three dharmas should be universally relied upon. In this regard, it should be said thus: One should not rely on inferior beings, those with dishonest views, one should abandon them from afar upon seeing them, just like a venomous and fierce snake. Those who prostrate to them, one should not learn from them. Just as one sees a dog-eater, one should abandon them from afar. Those who are attached to aims, those beings will go to bad destinies. Those who learn from them, their destination will also be the same. Having heard the teachings of the Victorious One, without doubt in the Dharma of emptiness, one should treat with respect those monks who are difficult to teach. From them, hearing increases, their wisdom becomes sharp, they draw near to Bodhi, and are revered by all beings. One will quickly perform the Uposatha, quickly turn away from harmful speech, his wisdom will greatly increase, like a lotus in the water. One will quickly perform the Uposatha, and also quickly listen to the Dharma, his wisdom will increase greatly, he will cut off defilements. Great in wisdom and great in diligence, great in splendor and without fear, for those who have the desire to do good, one will also accomplish one's own benefit well. Here, householders should abandon striking with fists and palms. Completely seek the limbs of Bodhi, he will not decline from the Dharma, his illnesses will also decrease, he will possess an excellent form, beings will rejoice, he will not be attached to wealth. Abiding in the place of home, cultivating the mind of loving-kindness. Having completely abandoned all bad destinies, one will go to the place of the Thirty-Three Heavens. Obtaining the name of a deva, being desired by those with desire, even if one transmigrates from the state of death, one will not fall into bad destinies. Those who are of noble lineage and famous, will be born in this human world. He will possess a beautiful form, he will not be harmed in any way. This person is a practitioner of the Dharma, the devas and nagas will protect him. One will see the sacred places, all beings
