Similarly, if a bhikkhu who has broken his vows merely says one sentence, "All dharmas are without self," then those who cling to the notion of self will be terrified, will be afraid, will argue; what need is there to mention further explanation? By donning armor, one can defeat hundreds of millions of demonic armies. How can one avoid intense arguments and thus defeat the opponent? Those armors are the root of indestructibility, the root of purified qualities and reduced resources, the root of non-attachment, the root of non-hatred, the root of non-ignorance, the root of non-jealousy, the root of abandoning desires, the root of solitude, and the root of sleeplessness. In all of everything, do not generate a mind of harming others; in all of everything, do not generate a mind of desire; do not cling to anything. That armor is called the root of hopelessness; having donned such armor, one should generate the mind of enlightenment and not cling to anything whatsoever. Do not generate a view of self, do not generate a view of sentient beings, do not generate a view of life, do not generate a view of person, do not generate a view of woman, do not generate a view of man, do not generate a view of earth element, do not generate a view of water element, do not generate a view of fire element, do not generate a view of wind element, do not generate a view of desire realm, do not generate a view of form realm, do not generate a view of formless realm, do not generate a view of discipline, do not generate a view of broken discipline, and do not generate a view of emptiness. Do not generate attachment to everything; do not even generate attachment to nirvana, let alone generating attachment to self. Why should one not generate attachment? Because with regard to this, no attachment is found. Light-protector, if one truly clings to desire, one will not fully understand its change and cessation. Light-protector, in this way, desire does not abide in objects, nor does it abide in directions, except for false speech. Therefore, the Thus-Gone One speaks truthfully.

Hey! Speak the truth as it is. Whatever desire there is, that is not me, Those dharmas with such a view are the dharmas of a śrāmaṇa. Those in whom there is no attachment, Those are the dharmas of a śrāmaṇa. Whoever grasps that concept, Then they will grasp the concept of a person equal to Mount Sumeru. Those will fall away from this noble teaching, Those will not generate the dharmas of a śrāmaṇa, Those will not abide in the dharmas of a śrāmaṇa, but will focus on the gross. Therefore, one should not say anything to those foolish beings who are old with foolishness. Why is that? Because they grasp at anything. Therefore, it is for the sake of fully grasping the situation where beings will remain for an eon in the unbearable great hell. Avalokiteśvara, look at the monk Kokālika, The monk Devadatta, The monk Khanda Drabya, The monk Kata Morkatishya, And the monk Ocean-given. Avalokiteśvara, look at the monk Horse-tamed and Nabso. Avalokiteśvara, look at the monk Starry, my attendant, who speaks, walks, and sits in front of me. Look at him walking in the sky above with the power of miracles. Look at him destroying thousands of heretics in accordance with the Dharma. Look at him not believing in me and not conforming to every word. Whoever does not conform to every word will go to a bad place. Alas, if someone says, "He is the true Buddha," then he should be destroyed with a sandalwood stake the size of Mount Sumeru, utterly destroyed. A canopy the size of the three thousand great thousand world realms should be held in the sky above. Why is that? Avalokiteśvara, if it is difficult to believe even in the true sound of the Buddha, what need is there to mention those who have generated faith, have renounced with faith, have abandoned the qualities of desire, and meditate without dwelling on anything? Avalokiteśvara, those beings who can endure this and learn according to the precepts that have been established, and who also realize the Dharma nectar, are supremely rare and wonderful to me. Avalokiteśvara, it is like this: For example, in a great gathering,

The sound of the drum arises naturally, it is good, it acts as it is said, it gives alms, there is an ornament, and someone does not let it fall on his head, saying that it is a big story, and carries it wrapped in clothes. When Light Protector looks, he sees that nothing has been given as alms, and that there is nothing, so he throws it away. Similarly, Light Protector, with the glory of the Tathagata, does not see anything given as alms, and seeing that there is nothing, he will throw it away. Light Protector, attachment arises from perceiving self, and attachment arises from perceiving other. Light Protector, whoever fully understands the concept of self, Light Protector, having heard such sutras, will not be confused. Why is that? Because disagreement will lead to scolding. Therefore, having heard such a Dharma, one will gain a mind of even greater renunciation. Those who cling to it are those who have wrong views. Those who have wrong views, if they are motivated by such right views, will be confused. Why is that? Light Protector, perceiving self will lead to confusion. Light Protector, if a monk, a nun, a male lay practitioner, or a female lay practitioner, having heard such a Dharma, becomes confused, generates malice, or abandons it, then they are called renunciates, but they have lost the name of renunciates. They are not my hearers, and I am not their teacher. Why is that? Light Protector, those who speak falsely are not my hearers, and I am not the teacher of those who speak falsely. Why is that? Because the Tathagata speaks truthfully, the Tathagata says that all dharmas are empty. Light Protector, the Tathagata destroys my power and argues with him. Whoever argues with the Tathagata is called a Mara. The Tathagata completely expels the ranks of Mara and does not allow full ordination. Light Protector, for example, if someone says that a woolly elephant is born from a birdhouse, Light Protector, what do you think? That person
