After manifestly and completely awakening into Buddhahood, in order to thoroughly destroy all seeking, I will teach the Dharma. The chapter called "Three Vows" is a Mahayana Sutra, Volume Two. Kashyapa, a Bodhisattva should possess four qualities. What are the four? A Bodhisattva should engage in diligence. What is diligence? It is not seeking form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, but seeking the undefiled Dharmas. What are the undefiled Dharmas? Where there is no earth element, and no conceptualization of the earth element, no water element, no fire element, no wind element, and no conceptualization of the wind element, whatever is spoken is merely a designation. All designated Dharmas are not real. Therefore, a Bodhisattva should take the essence that is free from designation. Question: Blessed One, if designated Dharmas are not real, if someone were to say, "If designated Dharmas are not real, then is the designation of the sound 'Buddha' also not real?" Blessed One, how should I respond to that? I should not slander the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly awakened Buddha. After asking this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Mahakashyapa: Kashyapa, in the future, there will be monks who do not cultivate their bodies, do not cultivate their minds, do not cultivate morality, and do not cultivate wisdom. They will not understand the meaning, will be contemptuous, brave in harmful thoughts, and brave in speech. They will not take up, fully understand, hold, or recite such Sutras. Why is that? Because they think that form arises, feeling arises, perception arises, formation arises, and consciousness arises. Such Sutras are designated Dharmas. At that time, those who appear, how does form arise, how does feeling arise, how does perception arise, how does formation arise

and you all. Just as various kinds of consciousness arise, so too will those monks abide at that time. At that time, some householders and monks will arise, what can be done for them with the true meaning? O Āyuṣmān Kāśyapa, for example, if a blind person wears a golden necklace, they will not know it. O Āyuṣmān, similarly, at that time, if those monks hear such sūtras, they will not be able to grasp them even with words, let alone enter into them by attending to the true meaning. O Āyuṣmān Kāśyapa, for example, if someone threatens a young boy or girl, they will be frightened and tremble as long as they hear the name of that person. O Āyuṣmān, similarly, at that time, if those monks are urged with such sūtras as they truly are, they will know that it is not my praise and that I am wrapped in the robes of Dharma, and they will be frightened and tremble. O Āyuṣmān Kāśyapa, for example, if a monkey is tied near a cat, it cannot face it and look at it. O Āyuṣmān, similarly, at that time, when monks hear such sūtras, they will turn their backs and not face them. O Āyuṣmān Kāśyapa, for example, a fox flees from a dog and goes to a cemetery, goes to a hole, goes to a cave. O Āyuṣmān, similarly, at that time, when those monks hear such sūtras, they will run away like a fox. What is running away like a fox? It is that those who violate the precepts, when they hear such sūtras, will abandon them. O Āyuṣmān Kāśyapa, for example, a fox goes to a cemetery. O Āyuṣmān, similarly, at that time, when those monks hear these sūtras, they will also go to houses, go to sensual pleasures, go to women, go to fighting and fault-finding, go to gatherings, go to the terminology of medicine, go to the flattery of kings, and abide in them, and they will greatly violate the precepts. Thus, it is said that they go to the cemetery. O Āyuṣmān Kāśyapa, for example,

Eh. For example, a fox enters a cave. Light Guardian, similarly, at that time, those monks, if they die, will fall into evil destinies. That is said to be their entering into it. Light Guardian, just like this, for example, a fox enters a cave. Light Guardian, similarly, at that time, those monks will also run and scatter in the hells filled with razors, the great sentient hells of the sword-leaf forest, and the great sentient hells of the iron-thorn forest. This is called their fox behavior. Light Guardian, a monk with the fox's dharma cannot grasp or understand such sutras. If they slander and abandon them, after their body is destroyed and they die, they will fall into evil paths, evil destinies, and fall into the sentient hells. Light Guardian, if a monk says that this is not the true Dharma, then the statement that the Tathagata is true is also included. If it is said that this is not true, then wise monks should say this: Venerable, is it praise itself? Or is it a designation? In what way is this place expressed? If he says it is a designation, then he should be told this: Then you will also become a Buddha. Why? Because your name is also a designation. If he says it is emptiness, then he should be told this: Then it should not be said. Why? Because emptiness is unspeakable, therefore he has designated emptiness. Any emptiness that is not self, mine, or sentient being, that is emptiness. It should be said like this. Also, the monk should be asked: Monk, do you think that all dharmas are emptiness? If he says: I do not think emptiness is emptiness. Then he should be told this: Venerable, you have long been lost from the monks of Shakyamuni Buddha. Why? Because the Bhagavan speaks of emptiness, not of self, not of sentient beings, not of life, not of person.
