There is no attachment to that mind, nor is it completely possessed. Why is that? Like this, the mind of omniscience is without defilements and is not completely possessed. That is because there is no attachment to that mind of omniscience, which is without defilements and not completely possessed, nor is it completely possessed. For this reason, it is called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Then, the Venerable Shariputra said to the Venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, for what reason is there no attachment to that mind, nor is it completely possessed? Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, because the mind is without mind, there is no attachment to that mind, nor is it completely possessed. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, then what is mind? Does the mind that is without mind exist? Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, then, does the mindlessness exist or not exist, is it attainable or unattainable? Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, that is not so. Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, if there is no existence or non-existence for that mindlessness, and it is neither attainable nor visible, Venerable Shariputra, how can you say, what is mind? Does the mind that is without mind exist? Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, in any case, what you have declared is as the Blessed One has said, it is the supreme abode in the absence of afflictions, well said! Then, the Venerable Gangpo Maitreya's son said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what is called a Mahasattva, this Bodhisattva has put on great armor, this Bodhisattva has correctly entered the Great Vehicle, and correctly abides in the Great Vehicle, therefore it is called a Mahasattva. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, you said putting on great armor, putting on great armor, Blessed One, to what extent does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva put on great armor? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here the Bodhisattva Mahasattva thinks

I shall completely liberate immeasurable beings from suffering; I shall completely liberate countless beings from suffering. Thinking thus, (one also thinks) that those beings who are completely liberated from suffering by whom and by what, they also do not exist. Therefore, he liberates such numerous beings from suffering, but those who are completely liberated from suffering, and the beings by whom they are completely liberated, also do not exist. Why is that? Subhuti, if one holds to the nature of illusion, then the nature of phenomena is such. Subhuti, for example, a skilled magician or an assistant of a magician manifests a large crowd of people at a crossroads on a great road, and after manifesting them, makes that large crowd of people disappear. Subhuti, what do you think? Is there anyone there who was killed, died, destroyed, or disappeared by anyone? Subhuti replied: Bhagavan, there is not. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, likewise, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva completely liberates immeasurable and countless beings from suffering, but those beings who are completely liberated from suffering by whom, and by whom they are completely liberated, also do not exist. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, upon hearing such a teaching, does not panic, does not fear, and is not filled with dread, Subhuti, by this alone, it should be known that that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has donned great armor. Then, the venerable Subhuti said this to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, as the Bhagavan has said, the meaning that I understand is that, Bhagavan, this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has donned armor without armor. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, yes, yes, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should be understood as having donned armor without armor. Why is that? Subhuti, because omniscience itself is unmade, untransformed, unmanifested, and unconditioned. Those beings for whose benefit this armor is donned, those beings are also unmade.
