Then the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, what do you think? Does the Tathagata attain Bodhi?" He said: "No, Blessed One." The Buddha said: "Why is that? The Tathagata is Bodhi, and Bodhi is the Tathagata." The Buddha said to Subhuti: "If someone says that Bodhi is the path, and the path is Bodhi, is it that the Bodhisattva attains Bodhi?" Subhuti, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, having practiced the six Paramitas, thus the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, thus the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four unhindered knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, are all perfected. With the Vajra-like Samadhi, in a single instant of wisdom, he attains Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi, becoming a fully enlightened Buddha. Until Bodhi, the Bodhisattva obtains mastery over all Dharmas, and is called the Tathagata." Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, how does the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva purify the Buddha-field?" The Buddha said to Subhuti: "The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, from the initial arising of the mind, until the final existence, purifies the evil deeds of body, speech, and mind of other beings." He said: "Blessed One, what are the evil deeds of body, speech, and mind of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva?" The Buddha said: "Killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct are the evil deeds of body. Lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter are the evil deeds of speech.
