I, cause the donation of material possessions to be properly received and held, and constantly praise the merits of the Dharma donation and the material donation. Also, I praise and rejoice in the merits of those who give Dharma donations and material donations. I do not dedicate those roots of virtue to the level of Hearers or Solitary Buddhas. Instead, I completely gather all those roots of virtue, share them with all sentient beings, and dedicate them solely to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In any case, I dedicate them in such a way that the two kinds of thoughts, who is dedicating and where to dedicate, do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditation, is holding the perfection of giving. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditation, hold the perfection of morality? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditation, never generates a mind with attachment, does not generate a mind with hatred, and does not generate a mind with delusion. He does not generate a mind with harm, with stinginess, or with immoral conduct. On the contrary, he constantly abides together with the mental activities that possess the nature of all-knowingness. He also does not dedicate those roots of virtue to the level of Hearers or Solitary Buddhas. Instead, he completely gathers all those roots of virtue, shares them with all sentient beings, and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In any case, he dedicates them in such a way that the two kinds of thoughts, who is dedicating and where to dedicate, do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditation, is holding the perfection of morality.

No. (Question:) Venerable Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of concentration, uphold the perfection of patience? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of concentration, individually understands form as being like a mass of water bubbles. Likewise, feeling is like a water bubble; perception is like a mirage; formations are like a banana tree; and consciousness is individually understood as being like an illusion. When individually understanding in this way, all formations are empty, so what is there to harm, to cut, or to pierce? Who pierces, who cuts? Whose is form? Whose is feeling? Whose is perception? Whose are formations? Whose is consciousness? Who is restrained or scolded, and generates hatred? Who is it that is restrained or scolded, and generates hatred? Thus, constantly abiding in the perception that the five aggregates are without essence, they do not dedicate that root of virtue to the ground of the Hearers or the Solitary Buddhas, but instead, having made it common with all other sentient beings, they dedicate it to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, in such a way that the two thoughts of who is dedicating and to where they are dedicating do not arise. Thus, they dedicate it. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of concentration, upholds the perfection of patience. (Question:) Venerable Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of concentration, uphold the perfection of diligence? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of concentration, grasps the characteristics of all concentrations, liberations, and samadhis, and practices various kinds of miraculous manifestations.

Should be widely practiced. Should be done. Because the divine ear transcends the human, thus, the sounds of gods and humans, in various ways, can all be heard. Likewise, the minds of other sentient beings and other individuals are thoroughly understood with the mind, just as they are, even up to the unsurpassed mind, it is thoroughly understood just as it is. Likewise, one should widely practice remembering various past abodes. Likewise, the divine eye, being pure and transcending the human, sees all that approaches according to its karma. Having dwelt in these five superknowledges, in order to behold the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, to serve and honor them, to generate roots of virtue, and also to fully ripen sentient beings, one goes from Buddha-field to Buddha-field, and also makes the Buddha-fields completely pure, and those roots of virtue are also made common with all sentient beings, and completely dedicated solely to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. No matter how one dedicates, or where one dedicates, the two kinds of minds do not arise, and thus one dedicates. Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditative concentration, is one who fully upholds the perfection of diligence. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditative concentration, how does he fully uphold the perfection of wisdom? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the perfection of meditative concentration, does not perceive form. Likewise, he does not perceive even up to the mindfulnesses. Likewise, he does not perceive even up to the eightfold noble path. He does not perceive even up to the all-knowingness. He does not perceive the conditioned realm. He does not perceive the unconditioned realm. Thus, if one does not directly realize all phenomena, then one does not directly realize any phenomenon. Because one does not directly realize, one does not take up any phenomenon, nor does one not take it up.
