Having dwelt in the great perfection of wisdom, compliant patience arises. Having obtained that patience, he thinks thus: 'Alas, for this, there is no birth, no cessation, no arising, no aging, no dying, no reviling, no obstruction, no cutting, no piercing, no harming, no killing, no binding.' If all beings were to come before such a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who has obtained patience, and revile, or obstruct, or beat, or stab, or strike with weapons, or even cut off all limbs, his mind would not change. He would think thus: 'This is the nature of all dharmas. Alas, for this, no dharma reviles, obstructs, cuts, pierces, harms, kills, or binds any dharma.' Subhuti, thus, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, dwelling in the perfection of wisdom, fully upholds the perfection of patience. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, dwelling in the perfection of wisdom, fully uphold the perfection of diligence? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, dwelling in the perfection of wisdom, without abandoning diligence, teaches the Dharma to sentient beings, ensuring that those sentient beings are established in the perfection of generosity, and so forth, up to being established in the perfection of wisdom. In this way, he teaches the Dharma, ensuring that they are not established in the realm of the conditioned, nor are they established in the realm of the unconditioned. Subhuti, thus, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, dwelling in the perfection of wisdom, fully upholds the perfection of diligence. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, dwelling in the perfection of wisdom, fully uphold the perfection of meditation?

Having abided in the perfection, he enters into all other samādhis except for the Tathāgata's samādhi, whether they are the samādhis of the śrāvakas, the samādhis of the pratyekabuddhas, or any samādhis of the bodhisattvas. Having abided in that samādhi of the bodhisattva, he enters into and arises from the eight liberations in accordance with the order and in reverse order. What are the eight? They are as follows: One who has form contemplates forms; this is the first liberation. One who, being without perception of form internally, contemplates external forms; this is the second liberation. The liberation of beauty; this is the third liberation. He completely transcends all perceptions of form, the perceptions of resistance cease, he does not attend to various perceptions, thinking, 'Space is infinite,' he cultivates and abides in the sphere of infinite space; this is the fourth liberation. He completely transcends all the sphere of infinite space, thinking, 'Consciousness is infinite,' he cultivates and abides in the sphere of infinite consciousness; this is the fifth liberation. He completely transcends all the sphere of infinite consciousness, thinking, 'There is nothing at all,' he cultivates and abides in the sphere of nothingness; this is the sixth liberation. He completely transcends all the sphere of nothingness, he cultivates and abides in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception; this is the seventh liberation. He completely transcends all the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, he cultivates and abides in the cessation of perception and feeling; this is the eighth liberation. He enters into and arises from these eight liberations in accordance with the order and in reverse order. Similarly, he enters into and arises from the nine successive abidings in accordance with the order and in reverse order. What are the nine? They are as follows: the four dhyānas, the four formless absorptions, and the cessation of perception and feeling; these are the nine. He completely

Having distinguished those eight liberations and the nine successive states of meditative absorption, one enters into the samadhi called the Lion's Leap. Subhuti, what is the samadhi called the Lion's Leap of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? Subhuti, in this case, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, detached from desires, detached from unwholesome dharmas, with initial and sustained application, born of detachment, dwells having attained the first dhyana, which is full of joy and bliss. Likewise, having abandoned pleasure and having abandoned suffering, with the previous disappearance of pleasant and unpleasant mental states, he dwells having attained up to the fourth dhyana, which is neither pleasure nor suffering, equanimity, and purity of mindfulness. Likewise, he enters into the sphere of nothingness up to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Then he enters into the cessation of perception and feeling. Having arisen from that samadhi of cessation, he enters into the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Having arisen from the meditative absorption of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, likewise, having practiced, he dwells having entered into meditative absorption up to the first dhyana. Subhuti, this is the samadhi called the Lion's Leap, and having dwelt in that samadhi, he attains the equality of all dharmas. Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having dwelt in the Perfection of Wisdom, thus upholds the Perfection of Dhyana. The twenty-seventh chapter, the chapter on the collection of perfections, from the Hundred Thousand Verses on the Perfection of Wisdom, is complete. Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Chapter on the Collection of Perfections.
