Neither does it arise, nor does it cease. Why is that? Subhuti, whether the Tathagatas appear or not, the Dharma-nature of all dharmas abides, and the Dharma-dhatu abides; therefore, for it, there is neither arising nor ceasing. That Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with undistracted attention endowed with all-knowingness, constantly cultivates and abides. Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the Perfection of Dhyana, upholds the Perfection of Wisdom. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Bhagavan: Venerable Bhagavan, how does the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom, uphold the Perfection of Giving? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom, does not fixate on inner emptiness in inner emptiness, does not fixate on outer emptiness in outer emptiness, does not fixate on inner-outer emptiness in inner-outer emptiness, does not fixate on emptiness-emptiness in emptiness-emptiness, does not fixate on great emptiness in great emptiness, does not fixate on ultimate emptiness in ultimate emptiness, does not fixate on conditioned emptiness in conditioned emptiness, does not fixate on unconditioned emptiness in unconditioned emptiness, does not fixate on emptiness beyond extremes in emptiness beyond extremes, does not fixate on emptiness without beginning or end in emptiness without beginning or end, does not fixate on emptiness without abandonment in emptiness without abandonment, does not fixate on the emptiness of all dharmas in the emptiness of all dharmas, does not fixate on self-nature emptiness in self-nature emptiness, does not fixate on self-characteristic emptiness in self-characteristic emptiness, does not fixate on non-fixation emptiness in non-fixation emptiness.

The emptiness of intrinsic nature is not observed. In the emptiness of intrinsic nature of non-things, the emptiness of intrinsic nature of non-things is not observed. Abiding in those emptinesses, one does not observe form as empty or not empty. Likewise, one does not observe feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness as empty or not empty. Likewise, one does not observe the mindfulnesses as empty or not empty. Likewise, up to the Noble Eightfold Path, one does not observe it as empty or not empty. Likewise, in summary, up to the All-Knowingness, one does not observe it as empty or not empty. One does not observe the conditioned realm as empty or not empty. One does not observe the unconditioned realm as empty or not empty. Thus, practicing this Prajnaparamita, whatever one gives as alms to those who desire, whether it be food, drink, or any human necessities, one gives. And one does not truly see that giving as empty or not empty. One does not truly see who is giving, or to whom one is giving, or what is being given, and one does not truly see all of that as emptiness. By abiding in this way, there is never any opportunity for a mind of stinginess or a mind of grasping for that abiding one. Why is that? Because for one who practices this Prajnaparamita, from the time of generating the first thought of enlightenment until sitting under the Bodhi tree, all discriminations do not arise. Just as for the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, there never arises a mind of stinginess or a mind of grasping, so too it is for the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Prajnaparamita. Subhuti, for example, this Prajnaparamita is the teacher of all Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva

Dwelling in the Great Perfection of Wisdom, the great Bodhisattva is one who completely upholds the Perfection of Giving. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, how does a great Bodhisattva, dwelling in the Great Perfection of Wisdom, completely uphold the Perfection of Ethics? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, a great Bodhisattva, dwelling in the Great Perfection of Wisdom, does not even open the opportunity of the minds of all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Why is that? Because he does not fixate on those grounds of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Therefore, he also does not fixate on whatever mind there is that dedicates the ethics of body, speech, and mind to the ground of Hearers or Solitary Buddhas. From the time of generating the first thought, until sitting at the heart of enlightenment, he refrains from killing and turns away from killing. He also speaks praises of refraining from killing and causes others to correctly take up refraining from killing, and he also speaks praises and rejoices in those others who refrain from killing. Similarly, he also refrains up to wrong views, and he also speaks praises of refraining from wrong views, and he also causes others to correctly take up refraining from wrong views, and he also speaks praises and rejoices in those others who refrain from wrong views. With that ethics, he does not seek to act in desire, or to act in form and formlessness, or to seek any of the teachings of Hearers or the teachings of Solitary Buddhas, but rather he solely seeks and abides in the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, in that way, a great Bodhisattva, dwelling in the Great Perfection of Wisdom, is one who completely upholds the Perfection of Ethics. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, how does a great Bodhisattva, dwelling in the Great Perfection of Wisdom, completely uphold the Perfection of Patience? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, a great Bodhisattva
