One should not act like that. Similarly, one should not abide thinking that one should generate all samādhis. One should not abide thinking that one should strive with whatever samādhi one desires. One should not abide thinking that one should accomplish all the doors of dhāraṇīs. Similarly, one should not abide thinking that one should accomplish the ten powers of the Tathāgata. Similarly, one should not abide thinking that one should perfectly accomplish the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. Similarly, one should not abide thinking that one should perfectly accomplish the thirty-two major marks of a great being on the body. One should not abide in the manner of focusing on thinking that one should perfectly accomplish the eighty minor marks on the body. Similarly, one should not abide in the eight types of individuals, and one should not abide thinking that one should be a follower by faith and a follower by dharma. For a stream-enterer, one should not abide in the manner of focusing on thinking that if one delays like this, one will be a 'seven-times existent'. One should not abide in the arising from lineage to lineage and the 'one interval'. One should not abide in the individual who has exhausted his lifespan and whose afflictions are exhausted simultaneously. One should not abide in the stream-enterer as one who is of the nature of not falling into evil destinies. For a once-returner, one should not think that having come to this world once, one will completely exhaust suffering. For a non-returner, one should not abide thinking that one will attain parinirvāṇa there. For an Arhat who has exhausted the outflows, one should not think that there will be no further existence, and that here, in the realm of nirvāṇa without remainder, one will attain parinirvāṇa. One should not abide in a solitary buddha. One should not abide in a perfectly enlightened buddha. One should not think that one should completely transcend the level of a śrāvaka and the level of a solitary buddha, and abide in the level of a bodhisattva. Similarly, one should not abide in the wisdom that knows the aspects of the path. One should not think that one should manifest all dharmas in all ways and attain perfect enlightenment, thereby cutting off afflictions, habitual tendencies, and continuity.

One should not abide in the manner of contemplating that all actions should be abandoned. One should not abide in the manner of thinking, 'I will realize the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, become a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha, and then turn the wheel of Dharma.' Similarly, one should not abide in the manner of contemplating, 'After I have performed the deeds of the Buddhas, I will cause immeasurable and countless sentient beings to be completely liberated into the realm of Nirvana without remainder.' Similarly, having abided in the four legs of miraculous power that have been extremely cultivated, one should not abide in the manner of thinking, 'I shall enter into such a samadhi that if one enters into such a samadhi, one will abide for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges River.' One should not abide in the manner of contemplating, 'My lifespan will become immeasurable.' Similarly, one should become endowed with the thirty-two marks of a great being, and each mark of a great being will be completely accomplished by a hundred merits. One should not abide in the manner of thinking, 'In the east, south, west, and north, as many worlds as there are sands in the Ganges River, may all those worlds become one Buddha-field of mine.' One should not abide in the manner of thinking, 'May my three-thousand great-thousand world system become made of vajra.' Under my Bodhi tree, whatever sentient beings smell the fragrance, may the greed, hatred, and delusion of those beings disappear, and may they not generate the minds of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and may those sentient beings, by smelling that fragrance, be certain to attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and may such a fragrance arise that diseases of the body or wind disorders will not arise for them. In my Buddha-field, may the sound of form not arise. Similarly, may the sound of feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness not arise. One should not abide in that way.
