Subhuti, furthermore, a non-regressing Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses the mental engagements of a Bodhisattva, does not engage in any way whatsoever with all the secret mantras (Tibetan: གསང་སྔགས།), knowledge-mantras, medicines, and compound medicines that are used to attract women, nor does he allow others to engage in them, and he does not perform any acts of attracting women. He does not say to a man or woman, "May you become a boy," or "May you become a girl," or "May you become of a lower caste," or "May you become long-lived," and he does not display such worldly illusions. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not truly see the characteristics of phenomena that are empty of their own nature. Because he does not truly see the characteristics, he dwells in a completely pure livelihood. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses these aspects, these signs, and these characteristics should be recognized as non-regressing. Subhuti, furthermore, with which aspects, signs, and characteristics does a non-regressing Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possess, such that he should be recognized as a non-regressing Bodhisattva-Mahasattva? I will now show those aspects, those signs, and those characteristics. Listen carefully and keep them well in mind. The venerable Subhuti replied, "Bhagavan, yes." Having said this, he listened to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan spoke as follows: Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices this profound Perfection of Wisdom, because he is not separated from the mental engagements of a Bodhisattva, does not dwell in diligence in the combination of aggregates, nor does he dwell in diligence in the combination of elements and sources. Why is that? Because he dwells in emptiness, he does not truly see any dharma as inferior or superior. He does not dwell in diligence in the combination of the talk of thieves. Why is that? Because he does not truly see any collection or seizure of any dharma in phenomena that are empty of their own nature.

Because he has not truly seen. He does not dwell on engaging in the speech of war. What is the reason for that? It is like this: Because he abides in the emptiness of inherent existence, he has not truly seen any dharma, whether small or large. He does not dwell on engaging in the speech of battle. What is the reason for that? It is like this: Because all dharmas abide in suchness, he has not truly seen any dharma, whether attachment or anger. He does not dwell on engaging in the speech of villages. What is the reason for that? It is like this: Because he abides in the emptiness of all dharmas, he has not truly seen any dharma, whether gathering or not gathering. He does not dwell on engaging in the speech of cities. What is the reason for that? It is like this: Because he abides in the emptiness of space, he has not truly seen any dharma, whether collecting or not collecting. He does not dwell on engaging in the speech of towns. What is the reason for that? It is like this: Because he abides in the ultimate reality, he has not truly seen any dharma, whether increasing or decreasing. He does not dwell on engaging in the speech of self, and similarly, he does not dwell on engaging in the speech between the knower and the seer. What is the reason for that? Because all dharmas are utterly pure. Otherwise, he would dwell on engaging in the speech of the Prajnaparamita, and he would abide without being separated from the mental activities that are endowed with all-knowingness. He abides in the six paramitas, and he practices the paramita of generosity, not dwelling on engaging in the act of stinginess. He practices the paramita of morality, not dwelling on engaging in the act of immoral conduct. He practices the paramita of patience, not dwelling on engaging in the act of conflict. He practices the paramita of diligence, not dwelling on engaging in the act of laziness. He practices the paramita of meditation, not dwelling on engaging in the act of distraction. He practices the paramita of wisdom, breaking

does not diligently engage in the practice of wisdom. He abides in the emptiness of all dharmas, and he desires the Dharma, not not desiring the Dharma. He acts within the realm of Dharma and does not utter mantras of differing dharmas. He regards the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas as virtuous friends. Sons or daughters of good family, whether they are followers of the Hearer Vehicle or the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, will also be led to truly grasp the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. They are led, tamed, and established. In order to please and behold the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, they are born in the world realms where the Tathagata resides and remains. If they wish, they can be born there. For example, they abide day and night in the mindfulness of remembering the Buddha. Why is that? Subhuti, for example, the irreversible Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas mostly generate intentions corresponding to the desire realm and abide in the paths of the ten virtuous actions. In order to be born in the Buddha-fields where the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One appears, dwells, and remains, they generate the first dhyana, and even up to the attainment of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses these forms, these signs, and these characteristics should be known as irreversible. Subhuti, furthermore, an irreversible Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, practicing in the Perfection of Wisdom, abides in inner emptiness, and even up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, abides in mindfulness. Similarly, he is associated with the doors of liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. He thinks: Am I irreversible?
