Lata, whether a son or daughter of good family, if someone in each of the ten directions were to honor, respect, esteem, and make offerings to countless, immeasurable Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas with flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, cloths, parasols, banners, flags, and all implements of comfort for as long as they live, Kausika, a son or daughter of good family who extensively shows, makes understood, distinguishes, explains, and clarifies this Perfection of Wisdom in many ways to others, that son or daughter of good family will generate much more merit than that. Why is that? Because the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas of the past, future, and present also manifestly awakened, perfectly awakened, and will awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment by training in this Perfection of Wisdom. Kausika, furthermore, whether a son or daughter of good family who practices the Perfection of Giving with a focused mind for countless, immeasurable eons, compared to someone who extensively speaks about this Perfection of Wisdom to others, even making offerings, and does so in a non-focused way, that person will generate much more merit than that. Kausika, what is focus? It is when a Bodhisattva gives with a focused mind, thinking: "I am giving, this is giving, I am giving to others." If they think like that, then they are abiding in giving itself, but not in the Perfection of Giving. This is discipline, thinking: "I am disciplined, I am protecting discipline for the sake of these sentient beings." If they think like that, then it is not the Perfection of Discipline. I am patient, this is patience, I should be patient with this, I should abide in this patience. If they think like that, then it is

कौśika( कौśिक,kauśika,憍尸迦)。 世尊告言: कौśika( कौśिक,kauśika,憍尸迦)。

It is not the perfection of patience. I will undertake diligence. This is diligence. For the sake of these, one should abide in this diligence. If one thinks in this way, that is not the perfection of diligence. I will enter into meditative concentration. This is meditative concentration. For the sake of these, having entered into concentration, one should abide in this meditative concentration. If one thinks in this way, that is not the perfection of meditative concentration. I will cultivate wisdom. This is wisdom. For the sake of these, one should abide in this wisdom. If one thinks in this way, that is not the perfection of wisdom. Kauśika. A son or daughter of good family who practices giving in such a way, focusing on an object, does not perfect the perfection of giving. The perfection of moral discipline, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditative concentration, and the perfection of wisdom are not perfected. The Eight Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom, Chapter Twenty-Five, Requested by Indra. Lord, how should one practice so that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva's perfection of giving will be perfected? And the perfection of moral discipline, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditative concentration, and the perfection of wisdom will be perfected? The Lord replied: Kauśika. Here, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva gives, if the giver, the giving, and the receiver are not perceived, that is their perfection of giving. Moral discipline, the one who possesses moral discipline, and sentient beings are not perceived, that is their perfection of moral discipline. Patience, what is to be endured, and the one who is patient are not perceived, that is their perfection of patience. Diligence, the object of action, and the mind are not perceived, that is their perfection of diligence. Meditative concentration, the one in meditative concentration, and what is to be meditated upon are not perceived, that

Yes, that is his perfection of meditation. If wisdom, the wise, and the meaning of what is to be known are not perceived, then that is his perfection of wisdom. Kausika! A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices in this way will perfect the perfection of generosity. The perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom will be perfected. Kausika! A son or daughter of good family should teach this perfection of wisdom, with its meaning and words, in such a way that it is not perceived. Similarly, the perfection of meditation, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of patience, the perfection of morality, and the perfection of generosity should also be taught. Why is that? Kausika! In the future, there will be sons or daughters of good family who will teach what is disguised as the perfection of wisdom. There, sons or daughters of good family who have rightly entered into the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment will be ruined by hearing what is disguised as the perfection of wisdom, because they do not teach this perfection of wisdom with its meaning and words. Indra asked: Blessed One! What is that which is disguised as the perfection of wisdom? The Blessed One said: Kausika! Here, a son or daughter of good family teaches what is disguised as the perfection of wisdom in this way. Among them, what is disguised as the perfection of wisdom is this: Form is impermanent. Whoever practices in that way is practicing the perfection of wisdom. Thus they teach. Those sons or daughters of good family to whom it is taught also contemplate that form is impermanent. Feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness are also impermanent. They contemplate in this way. Those who are disguised as the perfection of wisdom
