One should rely on this Perfection of Wisdom. Then, the Lord Indra, king of the gods, said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, how much merit will a son or daughter of good family accumulate by making offerings to this Perfection of Wisdom?" The Blessed One said: "Kauśika, if a son or daughter of good family were to have a stupa made of the seven precious substances for the sake of making offerings to the Tathāgata who has passed into complete nirvāṇa, and having done so, were to honor, respect, revere, and worship it with divine flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, cloths, umbrellas, banners, and flags for as long as they live, Kauśika, what do you think? Does that son or daughter of good family accumulate much merit from that basis?" Indra replied: "Blessed One, much indeed! Well-gone One, much indeed!" The Blessed One said: "Kauśika, even more so, a son or daughter of good family who, with a mind inseparable from omniscience, holds, recites, reads, fully understands this Perfection of Wisdom, and also truly reveals it to others, attends to it properly, and after writing it down, honors, respects, reveres, and worships it with flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, cloths, umbrellas, banners, and flags, accumulates even more merit. Kauśika, let alone a stupa of the seven precious substances! Kauśika, if a son or daughter of good family were to completely fill this Jambudvīpa with stupas made of the seven precious substances, each one yojana high, for the sake of making offerings to the Tathāgata who has passed into complete nirvāṇa, and were to honor, respect, revere, and worship those stupas with divine flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, cloths, umbrellas, banners, and flags, remember them, and pray to them.
