Sapa, I do not say that form exists in all forms and all characteristics. Maitreya, I do not say that feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, up to the Dharma of the Buddhas, exist in all forms and all characteristics. Having spoken thus, Bodhisattva Maitreya addressed the Bhagavan as follows: Bhagavan, in what manner does form exist? Bhagavan, in what manner do feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, up to the Dharma of the Buddhas, exist? Having thus addressed, the Bhagavan spoke to Bodhisattva Maitreya as follows: Maitreya, form exists in the symbols and names of the world, but it does not exist in the ultimate meaning. Maitreya, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, up to the Dharma of the Buddhas, exist in the symbols and names of the world, but they do not exist in the ultimate meaning. Having spoken thus, Bodhisattva Maitreya addressed the Bhagavan as follows: Bhagavan, as I understand the meaning spoken by the Bhagavan, this realm is ultimately unspeakable. Bhagavan, since it is ultimately an unspeakable realm, then Bhagavan, how can names be established for the object of the characteristic of formation, so that it is called form? How can names be established for the object of the characteristic of formation, so that it ranges from feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, up to the Dharma of the Buddhas? Therefore, it does not ultimately exist. Since it does not ultimately exist, then how can it become an unspeakable object of the characteristic of formation? Therefore, the unspeakable realm should not be understood. Having thus addressed, the Bhagavan spoke to Bodhisattva Maitreya: Therefore, Maitreya, I ask you in return, you should try your best to answer. Maitreya, what do you think? When you act with wisdom in the unspeakable realm, what is called form for the object of the characteristic of formation? And feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, up to

Regarding the Dharma of the Buddha, do you perceive as existent those to which names can be freely assigned? Maitreya Bodhisattva replied: Blessed One, no. The Blessed One said: Maitreya, you should also understand in this way through this reasoning. The entity of the characteristic of formation is also not the inexpressible realm. Regarding the entity of the characteristic of formation, among those to which names can be freely assigned, such as form, feeling, perception, formation, consciousness, and even the Dharma of the Buddha, it is also not other than the inexpressible realm. Maitreya, if that entity of the characteristic of formation were the inexpressible realm, then all ordinary beings would also attain Nirvana or awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment and become Buddhas. Maitreya, if there were another inexpressible realm other than that entity of the characteristic of formation, then for the inexpressible realm, the characteristic of thoroughly comprehending the inexpressible realm would also be impossible to find. Maitreya, you should also understand in this way through this reasoning. The entity of the characteristic of formation is also not the inexpressible realm. Among those to which names can be freely assigned, such as form, feeling, perception, formation, consciousness, and even the Dharma of the Buddha, it is also not other than the inexpressible realm. After the Blessed One spoke thus, Bodhisattva Maitreya addressed the Blessed One as follows: Blessed One, if a Bodhisattva dwells in the Prajnaparamita that is closely related to the inexpressible realm, then regarding the entity of the characteristic of formation, among those to which names can be freely assigned, such as form, feeling, perception, formation, consciousness, and even the Dharma of the Buddha, if they are all invisible, Blessed One, what is it then? Is it existent but invisible, or is it simply non-existent? After speaking thus, the Blessed One said to Bodhisattva Maitreya: Maitreya, that entity of the characteristic of formation is self-existent.
