Venerable One, does the Tathagata manifestly awaken to the Dharma in mundane terms, or does he manifestly awaken to the Dharma in ultimate terms? The Blessed One said: The Tathagata's saying that he manifestly awakened to this Dharma is a statement in mundane terms. In that, it is not perceived that this Dharma manifestly awakens to such a Dharma. Why is that? It is like this: the saying that this Dharma manifestly awakens to such a Dharma is an attachment. By the two, nothing is attained or realized. Asked: Venerable One, if nothing is attained or realized by the two, then is it attained and realized by the non-two? The Blessed One said: Nothing is attained or realized by the two, and nothing is attained or realized by the non-two. That which has neither two nor non-two is called attainment and realization. Why is that? It is like this: this is attainment, this is realization, is elaboration. There is no elaboration in the equality of Dharma, and the absence of elaboration is the equality of Dharma. Asked: Venerable One, what is it that is called the equality of Dharma in the nature of things that are without substance? The Blessed One said: That which is without substance and is also not without substance, without nature and without complete expression, is the equality of Dharma. That equality of Dharma is inexpressible. There is no Dharma that can be fixated upon other than the equality of Dharma. The equality of Dharma is completely beyond all Dharmas. The equality of Dharma is not knowable or an object for children, noble ones, or any Dharma. Asked: Venerable One, is that equality of Dharma also not an object for the Tathagata? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the equality of Dharma is not an object for all noble ones, whether they are stream-enterers, once-returners, or non-returners.

Or, an Arhat, or, a Pratyekabuddha, or, a Bodhisattva, or, a Tathagata, is not a realm. Petition: O Blessed One, is it not the case that the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha possesses sovereignty over the realm of all dharmas? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, if the equality of dharmas were also different, and the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha were also different, then the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha would also possess sovereignty over the realm of all dharmas. Subhuti, whatever is the equality of dharmas of ordinary beings, and whatever is the equality of dharmas of the Stream-enterers, the Once-returners, the Non-returners, the Arhats, the Pratyekabuddhas, the Bodhisattvas, and the Tathagatas, that is a single equality, and there is no difference between equality and inequality. Thus, whatever is the equality of ordinary beings, and whatever is the equality of all noble ones, that is a single equality, and in a single equality, there is no distinction to be made, saying: 'This is an ordinary being, this is a Stream-enterer, this is a Once-returner and a Non-returner, an Arhat, a Pratyekabuddha, a Bodhisattva, this is a Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha,' because those discriminations are not seen in equality. Petition: O Blessed One, since all dharmas are in equality, and it is not seen to say: 'This is an ordinary being, this is a Stream-enterer, this is a Once-returner and a Non-returner, an Arhat, a Pratyekabuddha, and a Bodhisattva, this is a Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha,' then is there no difference between them and the ordinary beings, the Stream-enterers, the Once-
