The downfall of a Bodhisattva is: being separated from the four complete abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, and the noble eightfold path, is the downfall of a Bodhisattva. Being separated from the noble truths, meditative concentration, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, liberation, the successive abidings in meditative concentration, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, is the downfall of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, to realize the fruit of stream-enterer, or to generate desire for it, is the downfall of a Bodhisattva. To realize the fruit of once-returner, or to generate desire for it, is the downfall of a Bodhisattva. To realize the fruit of non-returner, or to generate desire for it, is the downfall of a Bodhisattva. To realize the state of an Arhat, or to generate desire for it, is the downfall of a Bodhisattva. I, the feeling arising from the aggregation of the nose faculty and contact, the feeling arising from the aggregation of the tongue faculty and contact, the feeling arising from the aggregation of the body faculty and contact, and the perception arising from the aggregation of the mind faculty and contact, are what is and is not. The perception of the earth element is what is and is not. The perception of the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, and the consciousness element are what is and is not. The perception of ignorance is what is and is not. The perception of formations, consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, becoming, birth, and aging and death are what is and is not. The perception of women is what is and is not. The perception of men is what is and is not. The perception of the desire realm is what is and is not. The perception of the form realm and the formless realm are what is and is not. The perception of virtue, the perception of non-virtue, the perception of the mundane, the perception of the supramundane, the perception with outflows, the perception without outflows, the perception of the conditioned, and the perception of the unconditioned are what is and is not. Subhuti, these are the places that are and are not for the body, speech, and mind of a Bodhisattva. When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, they completely abandon all these places that are and are not, and they also completely give away themselves in generosity. Moreover, they also encourage others to give. To those who desire food, they completely give food. To those who desire drink, they give drink. To those who desire clothing, they completely give clothing. To those who desire any necessities and implements of life, they completely give them away. One should be diligent in patience. I also initiate diligence. Again, one should be diligent in diligence. I also enter into meditative concentration. Again, one should be diligent in meditative concentration. I also cultivate wisdom. Again, one should be diligent in wisdom, and should sculpt, subdue, and establish well. Those roots of virtue are also shared with all sentient beings, and dedicated for the purpose of completely purifying the Buddha-field, filling the three thousand great thousand worlds with the seven precious substances, and making offerings to the Three Jewels, one also generates the thought: By this root of virtue, may my Buddha-field be made of the cause of the seven precious substances. Subhuti, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva strikes and plays divine musical instruments before the Buddhas or before the stupas of the Buddhas, he also generates the thought: By this root of virtue, may pleasant sounds of divine objects constantly and continuously arise in my Buddha-field. Subhuti, furthermore, filling the three thousand great thousand worlds with divine incense, and making offerings to the Buddhas or the stupas of the Buddhas, he also generates the thought: By this root of virtue, may the fragrance of divine incense constantly and continuously arise in my Buddha-field. Subhuti, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva offers food with a hundred flavors to the Tathagatas, etc., or offers it to the Shravakas of the Tathagatas, he also generates the thought: By this root of virtue, may I manifest complete enlightenment in the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment in that Buddha-field of mine, and together with the Sangha of Shravakas, may we enjoy food with a hundred flavors.
