That will make you rich in possessions, but do not be arrogant with those possessions, for they have no essence. Likewise, choose morality, O sentient beings, come hither! Keep the precepts, but do not be arrogant with those precepts, for they have no essence. Likewise, choose patience, O sentient beings, come hither! Meditate on patience! But do not be arrogant with patience, for it has no essence. Likewise, choose diligence, O sentient beings, come hither! Strive with diligence! But do not be arrogant with diligence, for it has no essence. Likewise, choose samadhi, O sentient beings, come hither! Abide equally in samadhi! But do not be arrogant with samadhi, for it has no essence. Likewise, choose wisdom, O sentient beings, come hither! Meditate on wisdom! But do not be arrogant with wisdom, for it has no essence. Likewise, choose all of emptiness, O sentient beings, come hither! Meditate on emptiness! But do not be arrogant with emptiness, for it has no essence. Likewise, choose the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, O sentient beings, come hither! Meditate on the factors of enlightenment! But do not be arrogant with those factors of enlightenment, for they have no essence. Likewise, choose the noble truths, contemplation, the immeasurables, the formless attainments, liberation, the gradual abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, samadhi, and the doors of dharani, O sentient beings, come hither!

Where does one exhort to the four kinds of eloquence and great compassion, as well as the unshared dharmas of the Buddha, saying: O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the unshared dharmas of the Buddha! Even if you meditate on those unshared dharmas of the Buddha, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in them. Similarly, exhorting to the fruit of stream-entry, saying: O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the fruit of stream-entry! Even if you meditate on the fruit of stream-entry, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in them. Similarly, exhorting to the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, the state of arhat, and self-awakening, saying: O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on self-awakening! Even if you meditate on self-awakening, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in them. Similarly, up to exhorting to the state of all-knowing. saying: O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the state of all-knowing! Even if you meditate on the state of all-knowing, do not become arrogant! For there is no essence in them. Thus, exhorting sentient beings and teaching them accordingly, even though practicing the bodhisattva path, one has no attachment to anything. Why is that? Because all dharmas are without attachment, for in regard to them, due to the nature of emptiness, there is no nature of what should be attached to. Subhuti, in this way, a bodhisattva mahasattva, even though practicing the path of awakening, does not abide in anything, and he practices the perfection of giving in a way that does not abide, and he does not abide in it. He practices the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom, and he does not abide in them. He enters the first dhyana, but he does not abide in it, why is that? This is because the first dhyana is empty by the nature of dhyana. The one who enters into equipoise is also empty by nature. The ways in which one enters into equipoise, those ways are also empty by nature. He

And enters the second dhyana, the third dhyana, and the fourth dhyana. Enters into loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. Enters into the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Enters into the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the noble truths, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and supernormal knowledges, but does not abide in them. Why is that? Because these supernormal knowledges are empty by their very nature. That which is equally placed is also empty by its very nature. The aspects by which it is equally placed are also empty by their very nature. Even if one attains the fruit of stream-entry, one does not abide in it. Even if one attains the fruit of once-returning, non-returning, and arhatship, one does not abide in them. Even if one attains self-enlightenment, one does not abide in it. Question: Why does one not abide? The Blessed One said: One does not abide for two reasons. What are the two? Namely, self-nature and non-self-nature. Because of these two reasons, there is no such fruit in which one abides, by which one abides, or where one will abide. One does not merely hold onto joy because of that. Why is that? Because one thinks, "It is not that I will not attain the fruit of stream-entry, but I will not abide in it." It is not that I will not attain the fruit of once-returning, non-returning, and arhatship, but I will not abide in them. It is not that I will not attain the state of a solitary buddha, but I will not abide in it. One should fully awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Why is that? Because I have held closely from the first moment of generating the mind, and apart from generating the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, I have not generated any other mind. Why is that?
