Doubt. To those sentient beings who should be benefited by compassion, joy, and equanimity, benefit them with equanimity. To those sentient beings who should be benefited by the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the noble truths, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, samadhi, the doors of dharani, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, and great compassion, benefit them with great compassion. To those who should be benefited up to the omniscience, benefit them with omniscience. Subhuti asked: "Lord, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva benefit sentient beings with generosity when practicing the Perfection of Wisdom?" The Lord replied: "Subhuti, here, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he gives food to those who desire food, drink to those who desire drink, vehicles to those who desire vehicles, garlands to those who desire garlands, incense to those who desire incense, ointments to those who desire ointments, clothes to those who desire clothes, bedding to those who desire bedding, and dwellings to those who desire dwellings, even to the extent of completely giving away any human necessities. Just as one makes offerings and gives to the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas, so too, just as one gives to the solitary Buddhas, Arhats, Non-returners, Once-returners, Stream-enterers, those who have rightly gone, and those who have rightly entered, similarly, to those who have become human beings, and likewise to all sentient beings belonging to the animal realm, one approaches them with the thought of no difference."

Giving up and completely donating. What is the reason for that? Like this, all dharmas are without difference. Because he gives a donation that is without difference, like this, the dharma that is without difference, he will attain all-knowingness. Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva sees sentient beings belonging to the realm of animals without giving them a place of donation, and thinks, "My place of donation is the perfectly enlightened Buddha, not belonging to the realm of animals," then that is not the dharma of a Bodhisattva. What is the reason for that? A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, after generating the mind of Bodhi, thinks, "Like this, I will benefit these sentient beings with generosity. I will not benefit these with generosity." Thus, he has not truly entered into the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. After benefiting them with generosity, they will be born into great and high royal families, born into great and high Brahmin families, and will be born into great and high householder families. Those who have been benefited by that generosity will gradually attain complete Nirvana in the realm of Nirvana without residue of aggregates through the three vehicles. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is asked by all the assemblies of beings to be killed, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should not generate other thoughts of giving or not giving, but should give to those assemblies of beings with a mind free from disturbance. What is the reason for that? Like this, he has truly entered into the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. If he discriminates, those Buddhas, Bhagavat, and those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, and those Pratyekabuddhas, and those Arhats, and those trainees, and gods, and humans, and Asuras, etc., will be reproached by the world. To him, first, may the protector of all sentient beings die! Or, may the abode, refuge, and friend die! Who would reproach by praying like that?

So it is. Furthermore, Subhuti, if there come to a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva those who have transformed into humans or those who have transformed into non-humans, saying, 'I am a beggar,' requesting to cut off limbs such as hands and feet, at that time, one should not generate a mind of hesitation, thinking, 'Should I give or not?' Why is that? Like this, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, for the benefit of sentient beings, intentionally generates the thought: 'With this body, I shall accomplish the affairs of all sentient beings.' Thus, having taken hold of this body, one should generate the thought: 'For the sake of these sentient beings, I have taken hold of this body; without needing to beg, they may take it away; take it now!' Subhuti, thus, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should train in the Perfection of Wisdom. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva sees a beggar, one should generate the thought: 'If the nature of all these dharmas is without an object of focus, then in this, who is the giver? To whom is it given? What is given?' Why is that? Like this, these dharmas are empty by emptiness that transcends limits; in emptiness, there is neither a giver nor a taker. Subhuti, thus, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should train in the Perfection of Wisdom, that is, one should train in the emptiness of inner emptiness, up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things. When one dwells in emptiness and gives alms, that Perfection of Giving will always be continuous and uninterrupted, and will be perfected. When that Perfection of Giving is perfected, even if one cuts and severs internal and external dharmas, the thought 'Who can cut me?' will not arise. Subhuti, from here, when I look at the world with the eye of a Buddha, in worlds to the east as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas intentionally generate the thought and enter into the great evil hells, pacifying the suffering of sentient beings in the great evil hells, and then with miraculous
