Furthermore, he abides having nearly accomplished the third dhyana, which is devoid of joy. He abandons pleasure, and he also abandons suffering, and since joy and sorrow have already ceased from before, he abides having nearly accomplished the fourth dhyana, which is without pleasure or pain, and is completely purified by equanimity and mindfulness. He abides having nearly accomplished immeasurable loving-kindness, by directing his mind towards the perception of happiness for sentient beings. He abides having nearly accomplished immeasurable compassion, by directing his mind towards the perception of freedom from suffering for sentient beings. He abides having nearly accomplished immeasurable joy, by directing his mind towards the perception of joy for sentient beings. He abides having nearly accomplished immeasurable equanimity, by directing his mind towards the perception of neither suffering nor happiness for sentient beings. He abides having nearly accomplished the sphere of infinite space, by directing his mind towards perceiving form as vast and perceiving space as peaceful. He abides having nearly accomplished the sphere of infinite consciousness, by directing his mind towards perceiving space as vast and perceiving consciousness as peaceful. He abides having nearly accomplished the sphere of nothingness, by directing his mind towards perceiving consciousness as vast and perceiving a little bit of nothing as peaceful. He abides having nearly accomplished the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, by directing his mind towards perceiving a little bit of nothing as vast and perceiving neither perception nor non-perception as peaceful. He does not fully accept the ripening of these dhyanas, immeasurables, and formless absorptions, but instead is born in them for the purpose of accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, and he causes these sentient beings to fully mature in the six perfections: the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. For the purpose of generating roots of virtue, he attends to and honors the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and goes from Buddha-field to Buddha-field.

O, excellent! Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells in the Perfection of Diligence and upholds the Perfection of Concentration. Asked: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwell in the Perfection of Diligence and uphold the Perfection of Wisdom? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells in the Perfection of Diligence, and in the Perfection of Giving, he does not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. In the Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Concentration, and the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. Inner emptiness does not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. Between the emptiness of the nature of non-things, he does not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. The mindfulnesses do not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. Right exertion, miraculous feet, faculties, powers, branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path do not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. The noble truths, concentration, immeasurables, and formless absorptions do not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. The eight liberations, the nine successive abidings in absorption, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and supernormal knowledges do not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. The samadhis and the gates of dharani do not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. The ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha do not truly see things, substances, or characteristics. , and do not truly see in accordance with things and signs. Because all dharmas do not truly see in accordance with things and signs, they do not cling to any dharma and act as they speak. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of diligence and completely upholds the perfection of wisdom. Request: World Honored One, how does the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abide in the perfection of meditation and completely uphold the perfection of generosity? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is separated from desire, separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, with initial and sustained thought, with joy and happiness born of separation, approaches and abides in the first dhyana. He ceases initial and sustained thought, his inner being is completely purified, the continuity of his mind becomes one, without initial or sustained thought, with joy and happiness born of samadhi, approaches and abides in the second dhyana. He is detached from joy and desire, endowed with mindfulness, abides in equanimity with knowledge, experiences happiness with his body, and the noble ones say that he is endowed with mindfulness, practices equanimity with happiness, approaches and abides in the third dhyana without joy. He abandons happiness, also abandons suffering, and since the previous mental happiness and unhappiness have also ceased, there is neither happiness nor suffering, completely purified by equanimity and mindfulness, approaches and abides in the fourth dhyana. He also approaches and abides in the same way up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. He abides in that perfection of meditation, and with an undistracted mind, completely gives material gifts and Dharma gifts to those sentient beings, and also properly encourages others to practice material gifts and Dharma gifts. He also proclaims the merits of material gifts and Dharma gifts. Also completely
