From then on, it will increase pride, generate arrogance, and distance oneself from omniscience. If one distances oneself from the wisdom of the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Buddha, then, an unskilled Bodhisattva will generate even greater arrogance, and it should be known that he will go to two grounds, namely, the ground of a Hearer or the ground of a Solitary Buddha. Thus, by the blessing of truth, the activity of a demon will arise for that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, and if he does not draw near to, rely on, or associate with a virtuous friend, and does not show respect, then the bonds of the demon will become even tighter. Why is that? Because he has not practiced the six perfections, and has not been completely grasped by skillful means. Subhuti, such a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should also be regarded as the activity of a demon. The Twenty-Five Thousand Stanza Prajnaparamita, Chapter Fifty-Four. Subhuti, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, not practicing the six perfections, not practicing the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, not practicing the three doors of liberation, come to be approached by a wicked demon with the blessing of names, in a faultless and uncorrupted manner? Subhuti, here, a wicked demon approaches in any form whatsoever, and says to the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva: 'Son of good family, you have been prophesied by the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Complete Buddha to attain unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and your name is such-and-such. Your father's name is such-and-such. Your mother's name is such-and-such. Your brothers' and sisters' names are such-and-such. Your sons' and daughters' names are such-and-such. The names of your friends, ministers, and relatives are these.' And so on, he closely points out the lineage of seven generations of parents, and says: 'You were born in such-and-such a country, such-and-such a city, such-and-such a village, such-and-such a direction, and from such-and-such a country you were born. Such-and-such a city, such-and-such a town,'

was born as a woman. If it is naturally gentle, it says to him: You were also gentle like this before. If it is sharp, it says to him: You were also sharp like this before. If it is a monastery dweller, it says to him: You were also a monastery dweller before. If it is a beggar, or if it is one who wears patched clothes, or if it is one who does not accept alms later, or if it is one who uses only one cushion, or if it is a beggar who eats whatever he gets, or if it is one who lives in a cemetery, or if it is one who has no cover, or if it is one who lives under a tree, or if it is one who squats, or if it is one who lives as it is, or if it is one who has three robes, or if it is one who has few desires, or if it is one who is content, or if it is one who is secluded. If it is one who is free from foot massage, if it is one who speaks little, it says to him: You were also one who spoke little before. If it is one who fights little, it says to him: You were also one who fought little before. Why is that? That is because since you have such qualities of practice, there is no doubt that you also had qualities of practice and these precepts before. When the former name and surname are pointed out in this way, and the qualities of practice and precepts that appear now are pointed out, because of arousing pride, that sinful demon comes near him and says: Son of good family, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, has prophesied that you will not turn back from the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, just like the qualities you have. Or he comes near in the form of a monk, or he comes near in the form of a nun, or he comes near in the form of a householder, or he comes near in the form of a mother, or he comes near in the form of a father, and says: Son of good family, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One

The Buddha has predicted the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. What is the reason for that? Because, like this, (they) will say that you possess all the qualities of the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Subhuti, if the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not possess the characteristics, qualities, and signs of the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattvas that I have described, Subhuti, other Bodhisattvas will recognize that this Bodhisattva Mahasattva is blessed by the devil. What is the reason for that? Subhuti, it is like this, because he does not possess the characteristics, qualities, and signs of the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and the one who speaks the name also despises, mocks, insults, and degrades other Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, Subhuti, this should also be known as the work of the devil done by the Bodhisattva Mahasattva with the blessing of the name. Furthermore, Subhuti, the work of the devil done by the Bodhisattva Mahasattva with the blessing of the name should also be known. What is the reason for that? Subhuti, it is like this, because the Bodhisattva Mahasattva has not practiced the six perfections, he does not know the skandha demon, that is, he does not know form, he does not know sensation, perception, volition, and consciousness. Then, the evil demon will predict with the blessing of the name, saying that after you attain unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, your name will become this. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva will utter the name that he has thought and considered. Then, the Bodhisattva who is shallow in wisdom and unskilled in means will think like this: What name should I distinguish, think, and remember, that name will become the name of my attainment of unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. No matter how the evil demon, the gods of the demon host, or the monks blessed by the demon instruct, he will do as they say.
