Furthermore, Subhuti, when that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, without the mental activity of possessing all-knowledge, he cultivates the mindfulnesses. He also focuses on those mindfulnesses in the manner of an object of focus, and he also becomes conceited with those mindfulnesses. And the right abandonments, and the miraculous feet, and the faculties, and the powers, and the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, and the noble truths, and the meditations, and the immeasurables, and the formless absorptions, and the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings in absorption, and emptiness, and signlessness, and wishlessness, and the superknowledges, and the samadhis, and the doors of dharani, and the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One, and the four fearlessnesses, and the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, he cultivates. He also focuses on those unshared qualities of a Buddha in the manner of an object of focus, and he also becomes conceited with those unshared qualities of a Buddha. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, in this way, due to unskilled means, when he hears this teaching of the Perfection of Wisdom, he will become frightened, terrified, and scared. He asked: World-Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva become completely seized by evil friends, and when he hears this teaching of the Perfection of Wisdom, he becomes frightened, terrified, and scared, and falls into the grasp of evil friends? The World-Honored One said: Subhuti, here, the evil friend of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is one who does not generate faith in practicing the Perfection of Wisdom and obstructs it. And one who does not generate faith in practicing the Perfection of Wisdom of meditation, the Perfection of Wisdom of diligence, the Perfection of Wisdom of patience, the Perfection of Wisdom of ethics, and the Perfection of Wisdom of generosity, and obstructs it.

This is not spoken by the Tathagata. This is not Dharma. This is not Vinaya. This is not a place to be learned. These sutras are self-made. These should not be listened to. They should not be grasped. They should not be held. They should not be read. They should not be fully understood. They should not be properly attended to. These should not be shown to others. Saying these things, one should know that this is a sinful friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, a sinful friend of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this: the evil Mara, having made the appearance of a Buddha, comes to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva and turns away from the six perfections, causing them to have no faith, saying: 'Son of good family, what good does it do you to cultivate the Perfection of Wisdom? What good does it do you to cultivate the Perfection of Meditation? What good does it do you to cultivate the Perfection of Diligence? What good does it do you to cultivate the Perfection of Patience? What good does it do you to cultivate the Perfection of Morality? What good does it do you to cultivate the Perfection of Giving?' Thus he will speak. Those who do not show the deeds of Mara, who do not show the faults of Mara, should be known as sinful friends of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, the evil Mara, having made the appearance of a Buddha, goes to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva and teaches the sutras with the Hearers, the verses, the prophecies, the gathas, the self-utterances, the stories, the 'thus it was,' the birth stories, the extensive, the unprecedented Dharma, the parables, and the established teachings. He explains, distinguishes, clarifies, and fully teaches. Those who do not speak or show such deeds of Mara should be known as sinful friends of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, the evil Mara, having made the appearance of a Buddha, the Bodhisattva
