One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of having no mother, having no wishes, and for the meaning of direct knowledge (supernormal powers). One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of all samādhis and for the sake of all dhāraṇī gates. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of the ten powers of the Tathāgata, the four fearlessnesses, the four kinds of separate correct knowledge, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of suchness, the realm of Dharma, and the ultimate limit of reality. Why is that? Because when a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, there is no perception of difference, distinction, or particularity in any dharma. Śāradvatīputra, such practice by a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva is called diligence in the Perfection of Wisdom. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of the meaning of the divine eye. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of the divine ear, knowing the minds of others, remembering past lives, the aspects of magical transformations, and the meaning of the knowledge of the exhaustion of defilements. Why is that? Because when one practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, one does not even truly see the Perfection of Wisdom itself, let alone a Bodhisattva. How could one possibly focus on all direct knowledge (supernormal powers) in every way? Śāradvatīputra, such practice by a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva is called diligence in the Perfection of Wisdom. Furthermore, Śāradvatīputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, one should not think, "I will abide in the miraculous feet and serve, respect, honor, and make offerings to all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who reside in the world systems as numerous as the sands of the Ganges in the eastern direction." For each direction of the south, west, north, northeast, southeast, southwest, northwest, below, and above

In worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, I do not think, 'I will attend to all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who dwell there. I will honor them. I will respect them. I will make offerings to them.' Rather, I think, 'I will listen with divine ears to all that the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, teach. I will know the minds of the beings in those worlds with my mind. I will remember their former abodes. I will see with divine eyes those beings who die and are reborn, and those who have been born. I do not think, 'I will completely liberate countless beings from sorrow.' Sharadvatiputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who acts in this way is said to be diligent in the Perfection of Wisdom. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, even those who seek opportunities and create obstacles cannot find an opportunity, and all worldly and transworldly activities are spontaneously accomplished and harmoniously fulfilled without any impediment. All worldly defilements will be completely eliminated. In worlds to the east as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who dwell there, protect that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, lest he fall into the Hearer's Ground or the Solitary Buddha's Ground. The Four Great Kings, the gods of the Thirty-three, the Yama gods, the Tushita gods, the Nirmāṇarati gods, the Paranirmita-vaśavartin gods, the Brahma hosts, the Brahma attendants, the Great Brahma, the gods of Light, the gods of Minor Light, the gods of Immeasurable Light, the gods of Universal Light, the gods of Virtue, the gods of Minor Virtue, the gods of Immeasurable Virtue, the gods of Extensive Virtue, the Great gods, the Minor Great gods, the Immeasurable Great gods, the gods of Great Fruit, the Non-Great gods, the Non-Afflicted gods, the gods of Excellent Vision, the gods of Abundant Appearance, and the gods of Akanishtha also protect that Bodhisattva.
