Question: These golden lotuses with a thousand petals were offered by the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Supreme Parasol, for the purpose of making offerings to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Shakyamuni took those lotuses and scattered them in the direction of the northwest, to where those Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas of worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River were. Then, those lotuses completely filled all those worlds, and many bodies of the Tathagata resided on those lotuses, and thus, starting from these six perfections, they taught the Dharma. All those sentient beings who heard that Dharma teaching were certain to attain unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Bodhisattvas, whether householders or renunciates, and those appearing as boys and girls, also, with their respective roots of virtue, served, honored, respected, and made offerings to the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Shakyamuni, and sat down on one side. Then, in the direction below, beyond all the worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, there is a world called Lotus, where the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Lotus Glory resides and dwells, and he accurately teaches this Perfection of Wisdom to the Bodhisattvas, the great beings. Then, in that world, a Bodhisattva, a great being named Supreme Lotus, seeing that great light, the great earthquake, and the Tathagata's body that is insatiable to behold, went to where the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Lotus Glory was, and having arrived, to the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Lotus Glory

Thus he requested. "Venerable One, what is the cause and what is the condition for such a great light to appear in the world, for such a great earthquake to occur, and for the body of the Thus-Gone One to be present in this way?" After he requested thus, the Venerable One, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha, Glorious Lotus, spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Lotus Supreme: "Son of good family, from here, in the direction above, after passing as many world realms as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, there is a world realm called 'Enduring.' There, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha Shakyamuni resides and maintains life. He teaches the Perfection of Wisdom to the Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas. This is his power, and it is like that." Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Lotus Supreme said to the Venerable One, the Thus-Gone One, Glorious Lotus: "Venerable One, I also wish to go to that world realm 'Enduring,' to see the Venerable One, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha Shakyamuni, and to pay homage and serve him. Also, I wish to see those Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas, who are mostly young, who have excellently attained the accomplishment of dharanis and individual perfect knowledge, and who have excellently attained mastery over all samadhis and meditative absorptions." The Venerable One, the Thus-Gone One, Glorious Lotus, said: "Son of good family, if you know that the time has come, then go." Then, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha, Glorious Lotus, gave to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Lotus Supreme a thousand lotus flowers made of various jewels, golden in color, and possessing a thousand petals, saying: "Son of good family, ask the Venerable One, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha Shakyamuni, 'Venerable One, are you free from illness? Son of good family, conduct yourself diligently in that Buddha-field. Why is that? Because those Bodhisattvas, great beings, born in that world-realm are difficult to please. There, one might fall. Then the Bodhisattva, great being, Lotus Supreme, from the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Lotus Glory, took those golden-colored lotuses with a thousand petals. Accompanied by countless billions of hundreds of thousands of kotis of Bodhisattvas abiding in the form of householders, renunciants, boys, and girls, having become invisible from that Buddha-field, to all those Blessed Ones, Tathagatas, who dwell and sustain in the lower direction, with flowers, incense, fragrant incense, garlands, unguents, powders, clothes, ornaments, umbrellas, banners, and flags, performing service, showing respect, esteem, and reverence, and making offerings. By the great miraculous power of the Bodhisattva and the great power of the Bodhisattva, having gone to where the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Shakyamuni is, and having arrived, bowed to the two feet of the Blessed One with his head, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Bodhisattva, great being, Lotus Supreme, said this to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Lotus Glory, Blessed One, are you free from illness? Are you free from harm? Is your sustenance comfortable? Is your body healthy? Do you live in ease and joy?" Having asked this, these golden-colored lotuses with a thousand petals are also offered by the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Lotus Glory, for the purpose of offering to the Blessed One.
