Then arose the four fearlessnesses of the nature of non-existence. How did the four unobstructed knowledges of the nature of non-existence arise? How did the great love of the nature of non-existence arise? How did the great compassion of the nature of non-existence arise? How did the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha of the nature of non-existence arise? How were sentient beings also predicted to be the three aggregates in the absence of sentient beings? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, if there were something in desires and sinful unwholesome dharmas, if there were self-nature, or if there were other things, Subhuti, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, if I knew that desires are the self-nature of non-existence, and sinful unwholesome dharmas are the self-nature of non-existence, then I would not have approached, practiced, and dwelt in the four dhyanas. Subhuti, thus, desires and sinful unwholesome dharmas are without things, without self-nature, without self-things, without other things, and otherwise are the self-nature of non-existence. Subhuti, therefore, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, I was separated from desires, separated from sinful unwholesome dharmas, with initial thought and sustained thought, the first dhyana with joy and happiness born of separation. When initial thought and sustained thought ceased, the inner being was completely purified, and the mind was focused on one point, without initial thought and sustained thought, the second dhyana with joy and happiness born of samadhi. Separated from attachment to joy, abiding in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness, the body experiences pleasure, and the noble ones say that abiding in pleasure with mindfulness is equanimity, the third dhyana separated from joy. Also abandoned pleasure, also abandoned suffering, as well as mental pleasure and mental displeasure.

After the sun sets, there is no happiness, no suffering, and with equanimity and mindfulness, one approaches and dwells in the fourth dhyana, which is completely pure. Subhuti, if those with supernormal powers had something, that is, had self-nature, or had their own thing, or had something of another, Subhuti, I would also recognize all supernormal powers as the self-nature of having no thing, then I would not realize complete enlightenment to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Subhuti, thus those with supernormal powers have no thing, that is, no self-nature, no other thing, otherwise it is the self-nature of having no thing. Therefore, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, understands all supernormal powers as the self-nature of having no thing, and realizes complete enlightenment to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Subhuti asked: World Honored One, if the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with the self-nature of all dharmas having no thing, with the four dhyanas and five supernormal powers, realizes complete enlightenment to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, World Honored One, then for what reason, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, in the self-nature of all dharmas having no thing, gradually practices, gradually studies, gradually strives, with what gradual practice, gradual study, gradual striving, will he realize complete enlightenment to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment? The World Honored One taught: Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, first among the Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, and the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, and the Arhats who serve and respect many Buddhas, and the non-returners, and the once-returners, and the stream-enterers, the Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, are the self-nature of having no thing, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas are the self-nature of having no thing, the Pratyekabuddhas are the self-nature of having no thing.

of the nature of reality. The Arhats are of the nature of non-substantiality. The Non-returners are of the nature of non-substantiality. The Once-returners are of the nature of non-substantiality. The Stream-enterers are of the nature of non-substantiality. All the noble ones are of the nature of non-substantiality. The nature of conditioned things is so small that there is not even a place for a part of the tip of a hair. Having heard this, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thought: Even the Buddhas, the Bhagavad, are of the nature of non-substantiality, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are also of the nature of non-substantiality. The Pratyekabuddhas are also of the nature of non-substantiality. The Arhats are also of the nature of non-substantiality. The Non-returners are also of the nature of non-substantiality. The Once-returners are also of the nature of non-substantiality. The Stream-enterers are also of the nature of non-substantiality. If this is the case, whether I attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment or not, all dharmas are of the nature of non-substantiality. In any case, I must attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, For sentient beings who have the concept of substantiality, I will make them fully understand non-substantiality. Therefore, Subhuti, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, in order to liberate all sentient beings from suffering, enters into unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, gradually practicing, gradually learning, and gradually striving. What does he learn? Just as the previous Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas attained unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, he must also gradually practice, gradually learn, and gradually strive in the same way. First is the perfection of generosity, then the perfection of discipline, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation,
