Chapter Sixty: Gradual Chapter Sixty: Gradual Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, if it is so, since there is no conforming patience for those who have the perception of things, how can attainment exist? It does not exist. How can realization exist? It does not exist. Why is that? Blessed One, for those who have the perception of non-things, is there conforming patience? Or the ground of clear white vision? The ground of lineage? The eighth ground? The ground of seeing? The ground of attenuation? The ground of detachment from desire? The ground of having done what is to be done? The ground of a solitary Buddha? The ground of a Bodhisattva? The ground of a Buddha? Upon what does one rely to cultivate the path? Obscured by what afflictions? The faults of a Bodhisattva do not fall into it, and because the faults of a Bodhisattva do not not fall into it, one does not attain the knowledge of all aspects, and because one does not attain the knowledge of all aspects, one does not abandon all the afflictions that bind habitual tendencies, does one have the obscuration of a Hearer? Or, having the afflictions of a Solitary Buddha, is there a path that will abandon those afflictions? Blessed One, if there is no arising of any dharma that will arise, how can one attain the knowledge of all aspects without those dharmas arising?" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, it is so, it is so. It is so, it is so. For those who have the perception of non-things, there is no conforming patience. For those who have the perception of non-things, there is no ground of realization. In that, there is no ground for Buddhahood. For one who has the perception of non-things, what is the basis for meditating on the path, and what afflictions obscure it? Because of this, Bodhisattvas do not attain faultlessness. Because Bodhisattvas do not attain faultlessness, they do not attain omniscience. Because they do not attain omniscience, they cannot abandon all the obscurations of afflictions that connect with habitual tendencies. There is no path by which those afflictions of hearers or solitary Buddhas can be abandoned. Asked: Blessed One, what is it? When a Bodhisattva, a great being, practices the Perfection of Wisdom, is there a perception of things as existing, or a perception of things as not existing? Is there a perception of form, a perception of feeling, a perception of perception, a perception of formation, a perception of consciousness, a perception of the eye, a perception of the ear, a perception of the nose, a perception of the tongue, a perception of the body, a perception of the mind, a perception of form, a perception of sound, a perception of smell, a perception of taste, a perception of touch, a perception of phenomena, a perception of eye consciousness, a perception of ear consciousness, a perception of nose consciousness, a perception of tongue consciousness, a perception of body consciousness, a perception of mind consciousness, a perception of eye contact, a perception of ear contact, a perception of nose contact, a perception of tongue contact, a perception of body contact, a perception of mind contact, a perception of feeling born of eye contact, a perception of feeling born of ear contact, a perception of feeling born of nose contact, a perception of feeling born of tongue contact, a perception of feeling born of body contact, a perception of feeling born of mind contact, and a perception of the earth element?
