Regarding the knowledge of the aspect of the path and the knowledge of all aspects, that is, the so-called omniscience, among these three, with the aspect of abandoning afflictions, it has completely abandoned the remainder. In terms of "this has completely abandoned the remainder," is there a difference? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, there is no difference in abandoning afflictions, but the Tathagata has abandoned all connections of habitual tendencies. The Hearers and Solitary Buddhas have not abandoned all connections of habitual tendencies. He inquired: Blessed One, what is the reason? Have the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas abandoned afflictions without accumulating or attaining? The Blessed One said: It is not so. He inquired: Blessed One, what is the reason? Is there a difference in not accumulating? The Blessed One said: It is not so. He inquired: Blessed One, if there is no difference in this way, why do you, Blessed One, say: This has abandoned the connections of habitual tendencies, and this has not abandoned the connections of habitual tendencies? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the connections of habitual tendencies are not afflictions, but the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas have the bodily and verbal aspects of desire, hatred, and ignorance. Their connections of habitual tendencies, along with all ordinary beings and commoners, will cause harm, but for the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones, at all times, in all places, in all aspects, there is completely none, and it does not appear at all. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if there is no path and no Nirvana, then why is it said: This is a Stream-enterer, this is a Once-returner, this is a Non-returner, this is an Arhat, this is a Solitary Buddha, this is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, this is a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One? Blessed One,

said: Subhuti, stream-enterers, once-returners, non-returners, arhats, pratyekabuddhas, bodhisattva-mahasattvas, and tathagata-arhat-samyaksambuddhas are all distinguished by the unconditioned. Asked: World Honored One, what is the reason? Because of the unconditioned, this is a stream-enterer. This is a once-returner. This is a non-returner. This is an arhat. This is a pratyekabuddha. This is a bodhisattva-mahasattva. Is there such a distinction as tathagata-arhat-samyaksambuddha? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, although the unconditioned has no distinction, it is still explained by using language as a measure, but from the ultimate meaning, it is impossible to distinguish. Why? Because there is no way of language to be applied there. However, whatever is measured by, it is to set the later boundaries. Subhuti, all dharmas are empty of their own nature. If even the previous boundary cannot be determined, how can the later boundary be determined? This is impossible. Subhuti, sentient beings do not understand that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, so they are told: "This is the previous boundary." "This is the later boundary." But for all dharmas that are empty of their own nature, the previous or later boundaries cannot be determined. Subhuti, because of this, all dharmas are empty of their own nature, so one should practice prajna-paramita. If one practices all dharmas that are empty of their own nature, one will not be attached to the inner or outer dharmas, conditioned or unconditioned dharmas, sravaka dharmas, pratyekabuddha dharmas, or Buddha dharmas. After saying this, the venerable Subhuti said to the World Honored One: World Honored One, prajna-paramita, prajna-paramita, why is it called prajna-paramita? The World Honored One said:

Furthermore, Subhuti, this Perfection of Wisdom is the attainment of the supreme perfection of all dharmas; therefore, it is called the Perfection of Wisdom. Again, Subhuti, through this Perfection of Wisdom, all Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, and all Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones, have become perfected in all dharmas. Because it leads to the perfection of reaching the other shore, it is called the Perfection of Wisdom. Again, Subhuti, this Perfection of Wisdom reveals the supreme nature of all dharmas, yet it does not fixate on the appearance of samsara in any of those dharmas; therefore, it is called the Perfection of Wisdom. Again, Subhuti, this Perfection of Wisdom includes suchness, includes the ultimate limit of reality, and includes the sphere of dharma; therefore, it is called the Perfection of Wisdom. Again, Subhuti, this Perfection of Wisdom is neither associated with any dharma, nor unassociated; neither expressible, nor inexpressible; neither obstructed, nor unobstructed. Why is that? Because this Perfection of Wisdom is formless, inexpressible, without characteristics, and has the single characteristic of being without characteristics. Again, Subhuti, this Perfection of Wisdom generates all courage and all appearances of all dharmas. Subhuti, this Perfection of Wisdom cannot be cut off or stolen by demons or gods of the demonic hordes, nor by Hearers or Solitary Buddhas, nor by other non-Buddhists and evil companions. Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are also unable to cut it off. Why is that? Because its own nature is emptiness. In this Perfection of Wisdom, all of them have no object of focus. Subhuti, thus, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas should practice the meaning of this Perfection of Wisdom. Furthermore, Subhuti, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas practicing the profound Perfection of Wisdom
