It is called emptiness, and one does not fixate on non-emptiness. Self-enlightenment is empty, and one does not fixate on non-emptiness. Unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment is empty, and one does not fixate on non-emptiness. The realm of conditioned things is empty, and one does not fixate on non-emptiness. The realm of unconditioned things is empty, and one does not fixate on non-emptiness. When that Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices this Prajnaparamita, whatever he gives as offerings, whether it be food, drink, vehicles, clothing, flowers, garlands, incense, perfume, bedding, dwelling, livelihood, or any other human necessities, he truly sees that giving as empty. He also truly sees as empty the one who gives and the one to whom it is given, and there is no room for a mind of stinginess or a mind of grasping. Why is that? Because for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices Prajnaparamita, from the moment he generates the initial thought until he abides in the essence of enlightenment, all discriminations are absent. Just as the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, when he manifests perfect complete enlightenment, does not have a mind of stinginess or a mind of grasping, so too, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices Prajnaparamita does not generate a mind of stinginess or a mind of grasping. Thus, this Prajnaparamita is the teacher of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in Prajnaparamita and upholds the Paramita of Generosity. He asked: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in Prajnaparamita and uphold the Paramita of Morality? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, in this regard, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices Prajnaparamita.
