Thinking, this is the time to become fully familiar, this is not the time to manifest, thus he thinks. A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, even when not in meditative equipoise, fixes his mind on the object of focus. Therefore, in the interim, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva will not completely degenerate from the dharmas pertaining to enlightenment, nor will he manifest the cessation of defilements. Why is that? Because the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses such great wisdom, he abides in the dharmas pertaining to enlightenment, and he clearly knows that this is the time to become fully familiar, and this is not the time to manifest. Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he thinks thus: This is the time for the Perfection of Generosity, this is the time for the Perfection of Ethics, this is the time for the Perfection of Patience, this is the time for the Perfection of Diligence, this is the time for the Perfection of Meditation, this is the time for the Perfection of Wisdom, this is the time to cultivate the mindfulnesses, this is the time to cultivate the perfect abandonments, this is the time to cultivate the miraculous feet, this is the time to cultivate the faculties, this is the time to cultivate the powers, this is the time to cultivate the limbs of enlightenment, this is the time to cultivate the eightfold noble path, this is the time to cultivate the doors of liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, this is the time to attain clairvoyance, this is the time to attain samadhi, this is the time to attain the doors of dharani, this is the time to attain the ten powers of the Tathagata, this is the time to attain the four fearlessnesses, this is the time to attain the four analytical knowledges, this is the time to attain the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, this is the time to attain great love, this is the time to attain great compassion.

Yes. This is not the time to realize the fruit of stream-entry. This is not the time to realize the fruit of once-returning. This is not the time to realize the fruit of non-returning. This is not the time to realize the fruit of an Arhat. This is also not the time to realize the wisdom of a Pratyekabuddha. This is the time when one does not completely abandon the attainment of all-knowingness. One should examine it in this way. Subhuti, in this way, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he becomes completely familiar with emptiness and acts with emptiness. He becomes completely familiar with the signless and acts with the signless. He becomes completely familiar with the wishless and acts with the wishless. He meditates on the four mindfulnesses and acts with the four mindfulnesses. He meditates on the four right abandonments and acts with the four right abandonments. He meditates on the four legs of magical power and acts with the four legs of magical power. He meditates on the faculties and acts with the faculties. He meditates on the powers and acts with the powers. He meditates on the limbs of enlightenment and acts with the limbs of enlightenment. He meditates on the eightfold noble path, but does not realize the fruit. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is one who becomes completely familiar with the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, meditates on the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, and acts with the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, but does not realize the fruit of stream-entry. He does not realize the fruit of once-returning. He does not realize the fruit of non-returning. He does not realize the state of an Arhat. He does not realize the Pratyekabuddha enlightenment. Subhuti, for example, a person who is brave, capable, very steadfast, handsome in appearance, with a fine countenance, pleasing to look at, and of excellent complexion.

Perfectly flourishing and possessing. Excelling in the supreme archery skills, wielding sturdy weapons. Completely accomplished in all sixty-four arts. Knowing and understanding all crafts and professions. Pleasing and endearing to many beings. Whatever he does, he has great gains. With these gains, he helps many people, serves them with respect, gives them honor, and makes offerings to them. He is very happy and joyful, in a pleasant mood, and great joy arises. For some need, he takes his parents, son, and wife. They go to a desolate temple that frightens and terrifies children. When that person arrives there, he gives his parents, son, and wife the promise of fearlessness: Do not be afraid, do not be afraid! I will quickly rescue you from this frightening and uncomfortable desolate temple, and I will quickly liberate you. He gives them the promise of fearlessness. Because many enemies who want to kill that person live near that desolate temple, that person also becomes endowed with the power of supreme wisdom. He takes his parents, son, and wife out of that desolate temple, and they are liberated peacefully and without affliction. Then, they return unharmed to villages, cities, towns, or various places, feeling happy and joyful. He also does not hate those hostile beings in his heart. Why is that? Because that person is proficient in all the arts. Therefore, he conjures up other enemies who are more powerful, more numerous, more courageous, and possess more sturdy weapons than those enemies in the desolate temple. All those enemies are destroyed by fear. That person liberates his parents, son, and wife without affliction, and if there is a way of acting peacefully. Subhuti, in the same way, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells in a distinguished state with a mind focused on love, a mind focused on compassion, a mind focused on joy, and a mind focused on equanimity towards all sentient beings. At that time, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells in the four immeasurables, and
