For the dhyanas, one does not rely on others. For the right abandonments, one does not rely on others. For the miraculous feet, one does not rely on others. For the faculties, one does not rely on others. For the powers, one does not rely on others. For the limbs of enlightenment, one does not rely on others. For the eightfold noble path, one does not rely on others. For the noble truths, one does not rely on others. For the meditations, one does not rely on others. For the immeasurables, one does not rely on others. For the formless attainments, one does not rely on others. For the eight liberations, one does not rely on others. For the nine sequential abidings in meditative equipoise, one does not rely on others. For the doors to liberation—emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness—one does not rely on others. For the superknowledges, one does not rely on others. For the samadhis, one does not rely on others. For the doors of dharani, one does not rely on others. For the ten powers of the Tathagata, one does not rely on others. For the four fearlessnesses, one does not rely on others. For the four analytical knowledges, one does not rely on others. For great loving-kindness, one does not rely on others. For great compassion, one does not rely on others. For the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, one does not rely on others. For the fruit of stream-entry, one does not rely on others. For the fruit of once-returner, one does not rely on others. For the fruit of non-returner, one does not rely on others. For the state of an Arhat, one does not rely on others. For self-enlightenment, one does not rely on others. And for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, one does not rely on others. For example, an Arhat who has exhausted the defilements does not proceed by trusting others; because the nature of reality has become manifest, he is not robbed by the evil demon. Subhuti, similarly, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is irreversible is also not overcome by the Hearer Vehicle practitioners and the Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners, because they are of the nature of irreversibility from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment.

That is certain, abiding in the realm of non-retrogression, not relying on others. If one does not attain even with faith in the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, what need is there to mention that one would attain with faith in the Hearer Vehicle practitioners? That is impossible. What need is there to mention that one would attain with faith in the Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners? That is impossible. What need is there to mention that one would attain with faith in the evil Mara? That is impossible. What need is there to mention that one would attain with faith in the Tirthikas and other wandering ascetics? That is impossible. Why is that? Because in this way, he does not truly see any dharma by which one attains through faith. He does not truly see form or the suchness of form. He does not truly see feeling or the suchness of feeling.
