Furthermore, a son or daughter of good family will increase their merit far more than those previous sons or daughters of good family. The previous roots of virtue do not come close to this root of virtue, not even by a hundredth part, a thousandth part, a hundred thousandth part, a millionth part, a hundred millionth part, a thousand millionth part, or a hundred thousand millionth part. It is unbearable in number, part, counting, example, or cause. This dedication in the manner of a bodhisattva mahasattva without an object is called supreme, called chief, called holy, called excellent, called श्रेष्ठ (Sanskrit: श्रेष्ठ, śreṣṭha, best), called vast, called unsurpassed, called incomparable, called unequaled, called unequal and equal. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, you said, 'Whatever son or daughter of good family completely gathers all those roots of virtue, concentrates them into one, measures them, and rejoices with the best rejoicing, the chief rejoicing, the holy, the supreme, the श्रेष्ठ, the vast, the unsurpassed, the incomparable, the unequaled, the unequal and equal rejoicing.' Blessed One, by how much does it become the holy of rejoicing? By how much does it become the chief, holy, supreme, श्रेष्ठ, vast, unsurpassed, incomparable, unequaled, unequal and equal of rejoicing? The Blessed One said: When those sons or daughters of good family, regarding the roots of virtue of the past, future, and present tathagatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas, together with the shravaka sangha, and those pratyekabuddhas, and all sentient beings, do not take or abandon, do not become arrogant or depressed, are neither an object nor a non-object, and they think, 'In this, no dharma is born, nor does it cease,

Nor will it become confused, nor will it become purified. Those dharmas neither decrease nor increase, neither come nor go, nor become aggregates. In this way, with such various aspects, I shall rejoice in the suchness of the dharmas that have arisen in the past, future, and present, the non-erroneous suchness, the non-different suchness, as well as the dharma-nature, the abiding nature of dharma, and the faultless nature of dharma, just as they are. Having rejoiced, I completely dedicate it to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Such rejoicing in the bodhisattva mahasattva who thus completely dedicates is sacred. Those who rejoice will become principal, sacred, supreme, excellent, abundant, unsurpassed, incomparable, unequaled, and equal to the unequal. Subhuti, this rejoicing is not even approached by a hundredth part of all other rejoicings that are not it. It is not approached by a thousandth part, a hundred thousandth part, a millionth part, a hundred millionth part, a thousand millionth part, a hundred million millionth part, or even a hundred trillion millionth part. This rejoicing is said to be superior, principal, sacred, supreme, excellent, abundant, unsurpassed, incomparable, unequaled, and equal to the unequal, compared to other rejoicings that are not it. Furthermore, Subhuti, a son or daughter of good family of the bodhisattva vehicle, with respect to all the tathagatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened ones of the past, future, and present, as well as all those including the shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, from the initial generation of the mind until the abiding of the sacred dharma, the roots of virtue and discipline associated with the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom.
