Sharadvatiputra spoke thus: Speech has no birth, eloquence has no birth, and dharma has no birth. From what source do those dharmas that are the basis of speech and eloquence arise? They too have no birth. He said: The venerable Subhuti is the most excellent of those who speak the Dharma. Why is that? It is because the venerable Subhuti is unimpeded in whatever he is asked. Subhuti said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, that is the nature of the Buddha's Shravakas who do not abide in all dharmas. They are unimpeded in whatever they are asked. Why is that? It is because all dharmas are non-abiding. He said: Venerable Subhuti, how are all dharmas non-abiding? Subhuti said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, form is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, feeling is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, perception is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, formations are empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, consciousness is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, the eye is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, the ear is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, the nose is empty of inherent nature. It does not abide within, nor does it abide without, nor is it seen between the two.
