My Dharma is neither existent nor non-existent. Like formless things, it is without being, without obstruction. Thus, the absence of characteristics is the only characteristic. Son of Sharadvatiputra, in this way, birth is neither born nor unborn. The son of Sharadvatiputra said: Reverend Subhuti, if you dare to proclaim the unarisen Dharma, the unarisen Dharma, then, Reverend Subhuti, would you also dare to proclaim the unbirth of all unarisen Dharmas? Subhuti said: Reverend Sharadvatiputra, saying that you dare to proclaim the unarisen Dharma, the unarisen Dharma, is because, Reverend Sharadvatiputra, I do not dare to proclaim the unarisen Dharma, the unarisen Dharma. Reverend Sharadvatiputra, I also do not dare to proclaim the unbirth of all unarisen Dharmas, why is that? Reverend Sharadvatiputra, like this, whatever is the unarisen Dharma, whatever is unbirth, whatever is daring, whatever is proclaiming, whatever is the unarisen Dharma, all of these are neither existent nor non-existent. Like formless things, it is without being, without obstruction. Thus, the absence of characteristics is the only characteristic. Said: Reverend Subhuti, proclaiming is unbirth, daring is also unbirth, and Dharma is also unbirth, then, from what does one begin to proclaim that those Dharmas that one dares to proclaim are also unborn? Subhuti said: Reverend Sharadvatiputra, it is just so, proclaiming is unborn, daring is unborn, Dharma is unborn, from what does one begin to proclaim that those Dharmas that one dares to proclaim are also unborn. Why is that? Reverend Sharadvatiputra, it is because, form is unborn, feeling is unborn, perception is unborn, volition is unborn, consciousness is unborn, the eye is unborn, the ear is unborn, the nose is unborn, the tongue is unborn, the body is unborn, the mind is born.
