One should know great love, and not be arrogant with great love. One should know great compassion, and not be arrogant with great compassion. One should know the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, and not be arrogant with those eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. Son of Sharadvati, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not be arrogant with the mind of enlightenment. He should not be arrogant with the mind of inequality and equality. He should not be arrogant with the vast mind. Why is that? Because thus, mind is not mind, because the nature of mind is luminosity. Said: Venerable Subhuti, what is the luminosity of the nature of mind? Subhuti said: Son of Sharadvati, whatever mind is neither associated with nor separated from desire, neither associated with nor separated from ignorance, neither associated with nor separated from hatred, neither associated with nor separated from latent tendencies, neither associated with nor separated from obstructions, neither associated with nor separated from severance, neither associated with nor separated from habitual tendencies, neither associated with nor separated from all bonds, neither associated with nor separated from the aspects of views, neither associated with nor separated from Shravakas, neither associated with nor separated from Pratyekabuddhas, this, son of Sharadvati, is the luminosity of the nature of the mind of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Said: Venerable Subhuti, does that which is called 'mind that is not mind' exist? Subhuti said: Son of Sharadvati, if mind is not mind, then can existence or non-existence be observed or exist in that which is not mind? Said: Venerable Subhuti, it is not so. Subhuti said: Son of Sharadvati, if in that which is not mind, there is no such thing as existence or non-existence and it cannot be observed, then, son of Sharadvati, is it reasonable for you to ask back in that way, 'What mind is not mind, does it exist?' Said: Venerable Subhuti, what is not mind? Subhuti said: Son of Sharadvati, that which is not mind is that which is without change and without discrimination.
