This incident occurred in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder built a dwelling for another person, and offered many mattresses inside. The monks collected them all in a large storehouse. That monk said something to the householder, and the householder scolded him. After this happened, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said, "Monks, the householder's scolding is justified. Therefore, the mattresses should be used according to how they were offered, and those who dwell there have the right to use them." Then, that householder offered many cloths to that dwelling, and covered them with mattresses, piling them up among the Sangha's possessions. That monk said something to the householder again. The householder scolded him again. After this happened, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said, "Monks, the householder's scolding is justified. The donor has the right to decide, monks, the possessions of the dwelling, only those who dwell there have the right to use them." They did not give that monk any other rewards. The Blessed One said, "Also give him some from the possessions belonging to the Sangha, let him also enjoy it, do not hesitate." This is the first verse of the 'Four Gates Sutra' from the Vinaya. Then, whatever is fixed should be used, and the gains should also be taken as one's own. The monks did not give him other gains, and the Blessed One instructed: Give both, and then use them as you please, but how should they be arranged according to the age order of the monks? The origin of the story is when in Shravasti, when in Shravasti, another householder lived there, and a beggar went to him, made him take refuge, and settled him in the training. Later, he also spoke of the seven merits of doing good with wealth, and that householder was very convinced, saying: Holy one, I will also do some good deeds done with wealth. The holy one said: I have Karshapanas here, but I have no companions to do good. The householder said: Householder, bring the Karshapanas, I will be your companion in doing good. The householder said: Why don't you use the Karshapanas I offered to buy the tools needed for the project? The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Do not do dyeing work while wearing the Sangha's clothes, do not do the bowl affairs, and do not do the work of cutting down trees. If you do, you will commit an offense. This happened in Shravasti. The Group of Six monks, wearing the Sangha's clothes, were doing dyeing work without cover, sitting there like rain, ruining the clothes. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Do not wear the Sangha's clothes and sit there like rain without cover. If you sit, you will commit an offense. This happened in Shravasti. The Group of Six monks, while wandering, spent the night in another village in a rocky mountain, and arrived at a temple in the rocky mountain village. The monks rested in familiar places. They said: Venerable ones, the matter of resting can be done later.
