If, venerable one, you confess your faults, you should be counted among those who confess their faults. If someone accuses you of gossiping, you should be counted among those accused of gossiping. If you do not listen to instructions, you should be counted among those who do not listen to instructions. It should be subdued by mindfulness. If it is appropriate to subdue with non-bewilderment, then you should subdue with non-bewilderment. If it is appropriate to subdue by seeking its essence, then you should subdue by seeking its essence. If it is appropriate to make many rules, then many rules are given to you. A monk who speaks, to a monk who speaks, should also be trusted in five places. Speaker, listen. Whatever you are asked, you should speak accordingly. In such a way that one does not become weary oneself, nor harm others, nor harass faultless monks, nor openly rebuke the monks who are present, nor disagree with the words of the Sutra Pitaka to neutral monks. If done in this way, it will be good and very good. In short, the committed offenses are as follows: Commitment, views, and Uposatha, Teacher and what is practiced, Place of destruction and expulsion. There are five ways of committing offenses: arising from shamelessness, arising from doubt, arising from ignorance, arising from weak intelligence, and arising from loss of mindfulness. There are five things to be abandoned: supplication, questioning, admonition, speaking to some, and what should be said. What is supplication? Venerable one, do not do even a little that would lead to non-virtue, I supplicate you, venerable one. What is questioning? Venerable one, have you done even a little that would lead to non-virtue? I ask you, venerable one. What is admonition? Venerable one, do not do what would lead to non-virtue, I admonish you. What is speaking to some? Venerable one, practice diligently in such a way that you do not do what some do that leads to non-virtue. What should be said? Venerable one, I say again and again so that you do not do what leads to non-virtue. There are also five unlawful commitments: committing out of fear of the king, committing out of fear of thieves, committing out of fear of the lineage village, and by punishment.
